BUSSUM (Neth.) -
HCAW recorded its third consecutive shutout-victory against Curaçao Neptunus on Saturday (September 17) in Game 4 of the best-of-seven Holland Series to complete a 4-game sweep and capture its first Championship-title in 24 years!
Besides that, HCAW became the 100th champion in Dutch baseball-history!
Last week, HCAW nipped Neptunus with a 5-4 victory in the opener.
Two days later, HCAW recorded a 2-0 shutout-win, then won 1-0 the next day.
Today, HCAW again won with a 2-0 score to seal the sweep.
Lars Huijer went the distance for HCAW, gave up only two basehits, won his second game and was named Most Valuable Player of the Holland Series.
HCAW last won the Championship-title in 1998.
Overall, this was the third title for the Bussum-club.
For Neptunus, this was its fourth consecutive Holland Series in which it was left empty-handed.
In 2019, the team led 3-0 in the best-of-seven, but opponent L&D Amsterdam Pirates then became the first team in history to win the next four games to capture the title.
In 2020, Pirates won the first two games of the Holland Series against Neptunus, but the Final then was halted due to measures against the coronavirus and no champion was crowned.
Last year, Pirates again defeated Neptunus in seven games.
And today, it was HCAW that swept Neptunus.
The complete recap with stats, facts and photos is in the making and will follow soon.
