(Story by Marco Stoovelaar) Pilot-Pool opener between RCH-Pinguïns and UVV rains out Nederlands HEEMSTEDE (Neth.) - The first game of RCH Memorie Sieraden (nr. 3 Bottom-5 Pool) against First Division-champion UVV (nr. 1 First Division Top-6) in the Major League/First Division Pilot-Pool was postponed on Thursday-evening (August 18). After some heavy rain on Wednesday, a local heavy rain-shower on Thursday-afternoon made RCH's home-site in Heemstede unplayable. It was very local shower, as games in neighboring Haarlem could be played as scheduled tonight. The game will be made up coming Tuesday-evening. The two teams now open this Pool on Saturday at the home-site of UVV in Vleuten. Before the start of the game, UVV will be honored for capturing the First Division-title a few weeks ago. As of now, UVV will move tonight's starting pitcher Jurjen van Zijl to Sunday's game. Sunday's announced starter Gijs van den Brink now will be the probable starter coming Tuesday. The two other games in this Pool were played tonight. Silicon Storks opened against the second team of Twins Oosterhout and won 11-3 in a 6½ inning game. Sparks Haarlem led 10-6 after seven innings against Quick Amersfoort, which then came alongside. As the curfew-rule is in effect in this Pool, it was not possible to go into extra innings and with that, the game ended with a 10-10 score. In this Pool, the teams that finished in third, fourth and fifth place in the Major League Bottom-5 Pool (RCH-Pinguïns, Quick Amersfoort, Storks) meet the top-three teams of the First Division Top-6 Pool (UVV, Twins Oosterhout-2, Sparks Haarlem). These teams will meet each other in 3-game series for a total of fifteen games per team. Also tonight, the best-of-five Play-Offs to decide who will advance to the Holland Series, opened tonight. HCAW opened against reigning champion L&D Amsterdam Pirates with a 5-0 win in eleven innings. Due to an error, all five runs were unearned. Curaçao Neptunus decided its opener against Twins Oosterhout in the seventh inning and went on to win 7-2. In the first game of the best-of-five Play-Off for fifth and sixth place in the big league, Hoofddorp Pioniers won 9-4 against DSS/Kinheim. (August 18)
