RCH-Pinguïns wins make-up game vs. UVV in Pilot-Pool
Nederlands

HEEMSTEDE (Neth.) - RCH Memorie Sieraden outscored UVV 9-5 on Tuesday-evening (August 23) in a make-up game in the Major League/First Division Pilot-Pool. The game was originally scheduled for last Thursday-evening, but then was cancelled as the playing-field had become unplayable due to a heavy rain-shower.

On Saturday, RCH recorded a small 2-0 shutout-win. The next day, UVV, which won the title in the First Division, won 9-6.

Tonight's game was slowpaced and ended after 7½ inning due to the curfew-rule, which states that no new inning can be started after 10:30 PM.

(August 23)

RCH-Pinguïns was outhit 10-9 tonight and trailed 2-1 halfway the fourth inning. The team then came alongside in the fourth and turned the game around in its favor from the fifth inning on.

RCH got an early chance to open the score, as it got the bases loaded with two outs in the first inning off of UVV-starter Gijs van den Brink. The lefthander got two quick outs, then saw Jesse Aussems reach on an error. Van den Brink got the bases loaded when Tilsaimy Melfor doubled and Yurdion Martie walked. However, the three were left behind, as a flyout ended this first at bat.

After being retired in order in the second inning, the home-team opened the score in the third. Sebastiaan van der Horst led off with a single, Leandro Anasagasti walked and Jesse Aussems followed with a runscoring single. But that also led to an out, as Anasagasti was eliminated when he tried to advance to third base.

UVV got only one baserunner in its first three at bats off of starter Sven van de Sanden. The righthander faced ten batters and struckout five of them. The only batter to reach base was Luke Oliphant, who singled with one out in the second inning, but stranded on first base when Van de Sanden struckout the next two batters.

In the top of the fourth inning, UVV scored twice. Ryan Wheat led off with a triple. With two outs, the American scored the tying run on a single by his countryman Luke Oliphant. The latter then scored the go-ahead run on a following double by Aaron Isenia.

RCH-Pinguïns immediately came alongside in its fourth at bat. Teun van der Meer and Geoffrey Verhoef led off with walks and moved on a grounder by Paris Aguilera Zayas. Van der Meer then scored on a passed ball. Verhoef stranded on third base, as Gijs van den Brink struckout the next two batters.

UVV re-took the lead in the top of the fifth. Etienne van Tielraden led off with a single, stole second base and then moved to third base on a grounder by Stefan Kuipers. Next batter Malcolm Marlin flied out, but a throwing error towards the plate followed and that enabled Van Tielraden to score.

Again, UVV's lead was shortlived. In the bottom of the fifth, RCH scored three runs when UVV went to the bullpen. Dieudonne van Zoelen began the fifth inning in relief of starter Gijs van den Brink, but ran into problems. He walked lead-off hitter Jesse Aussems, then also walked Yurdion Martie with one out. The two moved on a wild pitch, then were awarded the next base when a balk was called. That brough in the tying run. When next batter Ties van der Beeke also walked, a pitching change followed. Hugo ter Steege took over, but he saw Martie score on a no-out-fielder's-choice-grounder by Teun van der Meer. Next, RCH got the bases loaded when Geoffrey Verhoef reached on an infield-hit. Moments later, the home-team scored another run when next batter Paris Aguilera Zayas also singled. With the bases still loaded, Ter Steege retired the next two batters, but the game had turned around.

UVV was held scoreless in the sixth, as Sven van de Sanden struckout two more batters to raise his total to nine. In the bottom of the sixth, RCH took more distance via a 4-run rally off of new pitcher Sean Wout. Jesse Aussems led off with a single and Tilsaimy Melfor followed with his second double of the evening. In an attempt to eliminate Aussems at the plate on a grounder by Yurdion Martie, an error was made and everyone was safe. Hereafter, Ties van der Beeke delivered a runscoring double and the next run was added on a sacrifice fly by Teun van der Meer. RCH got the bases loaded when Geoffrey Verhoef followed with a single and (with two outs), Sebastiaan van der Horst walked. Van der Beeke then scored when Wout hit Leandro Anasagasti with a pitch. Three runners were left behind when a flyout ended the at bat, but RCH now had a comfortable 9-3 lead.

After a scoreless seventh inning, UVV was able to add two more runs in the top of the eighth off of Moreno Vork, who had taken over the RCH-pitching in the previous at bat. With one out and Karl Hoschke (fielder's choice) on first base, Luke Oliphant singled. With two outs, both scored on a double by Daan Terstall. A grounder ended the at bat, which also ended the game, as the 10:30 PM curfew-time had been reached.
