Nederlands

VLEUTEN (Neth.) - Quick Amersfoort won 3-1 against UVV on Sunday (September 25) in what was their final make-up game as well as their final game of the season. With the win, Quick Amersfoort finished in first place of the Major League/First Division Pilot-Pool, which was introduced for the first time this season.

In the previous days, the two teams played their first two make-up games. On Tuesday, UVV won with a 3-1 score, Quick Amersfoort then won 7-3 on Thursday.

With that, the two teams were in a tie for first place when they had to play their third make-up game on Saturday. However, that game was cancelled again due to field-condtitions after rain during the night and was then re-scheduled for today.

Sparks Haarlem and Twins Oosterhout-2 played a double-header today after its first make-up game also got cancelled on Saturday. Twins recorded two shutouts, winning 4-0 and 3-0.

In the first six innings, only one run was scored. It was Quick Amersfoort that opened the score in the second inning and then hold onto the minimal lead for the remainder of the game. The team added an insurance run in both the seventh and eighth inning. UVV scored its lone run in the ninth inning.

UVV-starter Aaron Isenia struckout the side in the top of the first inning, but then gave up Quick's first run in the second at bat. After having struck the first three batters in the opening at bat, the lefthander now gave up singles to the first three batters he faced. First, Alex Madera and Marvin Jakobus singled. Thereafter, Amar van Zwieten also singled. As both runners of course advanced, a throwing error followed towards third base and that enabled Madera to score. With two runners on base and no out, Isenia followed with a strikeout, then a double play ended the at bat.

In the next four innings, Quick got only two baserunners off of Isenia, but both stranded on first base. After the team was retired in order in the third, Marvin Jakobus singled with two outs in the fourth, but a grounder ended the inning. With two outs in the fifth, Isenia walked Stijn Bruins Slot. He is one of the pitchers of the team, but today, in the final game of the season, Bruins Slot was the second baseman. This time, the inning ended with a flyout. Quick was retired in order again in the sixth.

UVV got only one runner in scoring position in its first six at bats off of starter Jack Wagner. The righthander retired the side in the first, third and fourth inning. With two outs in the second inning, Wagner gave up a bunt-single to Stefan Kuipers, but he also was left behind on first base.

UVV got another baserunner with two outs in the bottom of the fifth. Lucas Bekker was then hit by a pitch and also stranded on first base.

Trailing 1-0, UVV came close to the tying run in the bottom of the sixth. Lead-off hitter Daan Jansen reached on an error, but was forced out on a following grounder by Malcolm Marlin. The latter then stole second base and moved to third on a wild pitch. He stranded there, as Jack Wagner closed with a strikeout.

Quick Amersfoort doubled its lead in the top of the seventh. Marvin Jakobus led off with a double and moved on a grounder by Amar van Zwieten. Lars Visser followed with a double and that brought in Jakobus to put Quick ahead, 2-0. Visser was left behind on second base.

UVV left another runner behind on first base in the bottom of the seventh. With one out, Tijmen Takke singled, but a pop-fly and groundout followed.

In the top of the eighth inning, Quick added another insurance run. Lead-off hitter Luca Muller reached on an error and was moved into scoring position via a sacrifice bunt by Alden Stacie. Moments later, Muller advanced to third base on a grounder by Jordy Burger and he went on to score on a passed ball. In the ninth inning, Quick was retired in order by new pitcher Jurjen van Zijl, the starter who today was inserted as closer.

UVV got two more scoring opportunities in its final two at bats, which led to one run. With a 3-0 lead, Jasper Popken took over the pitching for Quick in the bottom of the eighth. With two outs, he gave up a single to Malcom Marlin, who stole second base, but was left behind there.

In the bottom of the ninth, Karl Hoschke walked with one out and advanced to third base when Tijmen Takke followed with a double. Next batter Stefan Kuipers grounded towards third base and was eliminated at first base, while Hoschke scored. At the same moment, Takke tried to advance to third base, but a throw from first baseman Marvin Jakobus to third baseman Luca Muller was in time. Takke was tagged out and that completed a double play which also ended the game and the season for both teams.
