HCAW in Final Ringvaart Tournament after two wins; Second finalist comes on Sunday
Nederlands

HEEMSTEDE (Neth.) - HCAW won twice on Saturday (March 26) on Day One of the Ringvaart Tournament to become the first finalist. On Sunday, the second finalist will come from the three other teams, Hoofddorp Pioniers, Silicon Storks and host RCH Memorie Sieraden.

In 2020 and 2021, the tournament was cancelled due to the measures against the coronavirus (COVID-19). In 2019, Hoofddorp Pioniers won the tournament by winning 3-0 in the Final against HCAW.

In the opening-game today, Hoofddorp Pioniers recorded a 3-0 shutout-win against RCH-Pinguïns, which this season will make its comeback in the highest league. Recently, RCH-Pinguïns reached a sponsor-agreement with Memorie Sieraden and with that, the team will play as RCH Memorie Sieraden in the big league this season.

In the next game, it was HCAW that recorded a convincing 14-0 shutout-victory against Storks.

In the third game on Saturday, HCAW played again and this time, the Bussum-team outscored Pioniers, winning 7-1. With that, HCAW secured its spot in the Final that will be played on Sunday-afternoon.

The first day was closed with a 3-2 win by RCH-Pinguïns against Storks.

On Sunday, Day 2 will begin with the game between Hoofddorp Pioniers and Storks (10:30 AM), to be followed by the match-up between RCH-Pinguïns and HCAW (12:15 PM). A 3-way tie for first place is possible, but HCAW will advance to the Final, as it had won the head-to-head games against both Pioniers and RCH-Pinguïns.

Starting at 2 PM will be the game for third and fourth place, to be followed by the Final that will begin at 3:45 PM.

(March 26)

Game 1 - RCH Memorie Sieraden vs. Hoofddorp Pioniers
In the opening-game of the tournament, Hoofddorp Pioniers scored early and went on to shutout host RCH-Pinguïns with a 3-0 score.

In the top of the first inning, Pioniers got its lead-off hitter on base right away, as RCH-starter Finn Kragt walked Bodhi de Vreede. He came into scoring position when a pick-off attempt ended in an error. With one out, De Vreede scored on a single by Jeldwin Orman, who shortly thereafter was eliminated when a pick-off was successful.

Pioniers, which left a runner behind on second base in the second inning, added its second run in the fourth inning off of new pitcher Joël Martis. Again, the run was scored after a lead-off walk. This time, Orman opened with a walk. He moved to second base via a wild pitch, then advanced to third base on a single by Oliver van der Wijst Severino. When the latter was forced out on a grounder by Mark Smit, Orman scored.

In the fifth inning, Pioniers increased its lead to 3-0 and this time, the run also was scored by the lead-off hitter. Daniël Heiligers led off with a single, moved on a grounder by Thom Hoogkamer and scored on a 2-out double by Roy Winkel, who transfered to Pioniers after having played for Storks in the past seasons.

Pioniers-starter Benjamin Meyer saw RCH get two runners in scoring position. With one out in the first inning, Jesse Aussems doubled and Ties van der Beeke walked, but a flyout and force out followed. In the third inning, the righthander was supported with a double play, but in the fourth, the home-team came closest to a run. Lead-off hitter Tilsaimy Melfor struckout, but reached on an error. After he had moved to second base on a passed ball, he reached third base on a grounder, but then was left behind.

With a 3-0 lead, Lucca van der Schouw closed the game for Pioniers and allowed only one more batter to reach base.

Game 2 - HCAW vs. Silicon Storks
In the second game of the tournament, HCAW opened the score with one run in the bottom of the first inning off of Storks-starter Obed Hernandez. With one out, the righthander walked Jeandro Tromp, who then advanced to third base on a following single by Quintin de Cuba and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jair van Borkulo.

In the second inning, HCAW rallied for six runs, which were all unearned, as the Storks-defense made three errors. Lead-off hitter Max Draijer reached second base on an error. Moments later, there was a second chance to eliminate Draijer after a comeback-grounder by next batter Bob van der Meer. Draijer got into a rundown, but an error was made and so, HCAW got runners on second and third base. The bases then got loaded when Julian Goins walked. Hereafter, Draijer scored on a sacrifice fly by Nathan Berkel, which would have been the third out when the two errors had not been made. But now, a run was scored, there were runners at the corners and only one out. Brendly Martina followed with a bunt-single that enabled Van der Meer to score. As the bunt was followed by a throwing error, HCAW got runners on second and third base. Both scored when next batter Jeandro Tromp delivered a single. After Quintin de Cuba had also singled and with two outs, Kevin Dirksen connected for a 2-run double that lifted the lead to 7-0.

HCAW staged a 7-run rally in the third inning. This time, all runs were earned, thanks to six basehits. With one out, the bases got loaded thanks to Goins (double), Berkel (infield-hit) and Martina (walk). Hereafter, Joël Martis took over the Storks-pitching, but he was greeted with runscoring singles by Tromp and De Cuba (who was 3-for-3). With two outs, the bases got loaded again when Dirksen walked. Draijer and Van der Meer both followed with 2-run singles that made it a 14-0 score.

Storks got only two runners into scoring position in its four at bats in this game. HCAW-starter Gio de Graauw struckout three batters in the top of the first inning, but also gave up an one-out single to newcomer Edvin Transquin, who stranded on first base.

With one out in the second inning, Raibiently Mercalina walked and newcomer Josh Manganiello singled for Storks. De Graauw followed with a strikeout and a flyout ended the at bat.

In the third inning, Storks came closest to scoring a run. With one out, Transquin walked and with two outs, a grounder by Sigmar Eustacia ended in an error and led to runners on first and third base. They also were left behind, as a flyout closed the at bat.

In the top of the fourth inning, Arjen Nijkamp took over the pitching from De Graauw, who had struckout six batters. With one out, Nijkamp gave up a single to Manganiello. Next batter Twan Naessens (who is a pitcher) then hit a line drive. The ball was caught by second baseman (and former Storks-player) Brendly Martina, which resulted in a game-ending double play.

Van der Meer was eliminated when he tried to advance to second base on his single.
