When he steps onto the field in 2023, Joshua Zara will make his coaching-debut in the highest Dutch baseball-league.
However, Zara is no stranger in the highest league, as he played in the big league for four seasons.
The Aruba-born Zara made his debut in 2011 when he played in two games for ADO and also recorded his first big league-basehit.
After not having played in the main-squad of the club from The Hague in 2012, Zara played in the second team of UVV in 2013.
He then returned to The Hague and made his comeback in the highest league in 2014 when the team had been renamed to ADOLakers after a merger between ADO and Losdun Lakers.
In the 2014 season, Zara was a regular player and played in 41 of the team's 42 regular season-games.
The infielder batted .177, scored thirteen runs and batted in ten.
Initially, Zara retired after the 2014 season, but he then went on to play for RCH, with whom he then played in the First Division.
After the 2018 season, the infielder tranfered to Twins Oosterhout.
And so, after five years, he made another comeback in the highest league.
That was in 2019 when he played in 41 games for Twins Oosterhout, hitting .236 with two doubles, 23 runs scored and eight RBI's.
Due to an injury, the third/first baseman was sidelined the entire 2020 season, but returned to action in May 2021.
He then batted .228 with three doubles, scored four runs and batted in ten in 27 games, but he didn't play for Twins during the Play-Offs of the 2021 season.
This season, Zara didn't play.
This season, RCH-Pinguïns finished in sixth place in the first half of the season.
However, in the second half (Bottom-5 Pool), the team finished in third place and with that, it missed the Wild Card Play-Offs.
When the team made its comeback in the big league this year, it played a memorable first game.
In an away-game at reigning champion L&D Amsterdam Pirates, RCH-Pinguïns trailed 18-1 in the top of the seventh inning and was three outs away from a big mercy-rule loss.
However, the team then scored 23 runs and went on to win 24-18.
