Nederlands

NEW YORK, New York (USA) - Jurickson Profar not only has been selected to play in the first Major League All Star Game in his career, he also will be one of the starting outfielders. The 94th All Star Game will be played on Tuesday, July 16 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, the home of Texas Rangers.

A week ago, the finalists were announced, two players for each position, in Phase 1 of the voting. Aaron Judge (New York Yankees) and Bryce Harper (Philadelphia Phillies) received the most votes and with that, they earned an automatic start. Profar was one of the outfield-finalists in the National League. He was one of eight players who received 2.5 million votes or more. Judge got the most votes (3,425,309), Harper was second (3,277,920). Third baseman Alec Bohm (Phillies) and outfielder Juan Soto (Yankees) also received more than three million votes. Catcher Adley Rutschman (Baltimore Orioles), DH Shohei Ohtani (Los Angeles Dodgers), short stop Gunnar Henderson (Orioles) and Profar received more than 2.5 million votes. Profar got 2,559,897.

On Wednesday-evening (July 3), the results of the fan vote in Phase 2 were announced, which determined the starting players.

Eight players were elected to start an All Star Game for the first time, which includes Jurickson Profar, who plays for San Diego Padres. On July 16, Profar will be one of the three starting outfielders for the National League.

Profar will share the outfield with Padres-teammate Fernando Tatis Jr. and Christian Yelich (Milwaukee Brewers), who both will start an All Star Game for the second time.

The complete rosters will be announced coming Sunday.

Jurickson Profar made his Major League-debut in 2012 at age 19, but this is his first selection for an All Star Game.

Due to a shoulder-injury, Profar missed both the 2014 and 2015 season. This season, he is one of the leading players of San Diego Padres and has a great season both offensively and defensively. He currently hits .314 (95-for-303) with 11 homeruns and 55 runs batted in.

Profar played for Texas Rangers in 2012-2018. He was then traded in December 2018 to Oakland Athletics for whom he played in 2019.

Another trade followed in December 2019 when he was part of a trade between three clubs. In this deal, Profar was acquired by San Diego Padres. Profar was a Free Agent after the 2020 season, but was re-signed by San Diego in January 2021. After the 2022 season, the outfielder again was Free Agent. This time, he signed a new contract in March 2023 with Colorado Rockies, who released Profar in August. Four days later, he was re-signed by San Diego Padres. After becoming a Free Agent again after the 2023 season, Profar signed a new one-year contract with San Diego in February of this year.
