VLEUTEN (Neth.) -
UVV has added veteran American righthanded pitcher Phillip Rowland to its roster, the club confirmed on Tuesday (May 7).
Rowland, who turned 36 last month, has a long career of playing in professional Independent Leagues.
Although pitcher always has been his prime position, Rowland also has seen action at the corners in the infield and has played all three outfield-positions.
Rowland also brings coaching experience, as he has been a pitching and hitting coach in recent years.
Since 2013, he also coached youth-players.
UVV also announced that Raoell Kortstam will return to playing-status.
After having played for the team last year, the outfielder initially retired and became one of the coaches in the staff of new Head Coach Scott Radinsky.
But now he will also be available again as a player, besides being an Assistant Coach.
Kortstam earlier played in the big league for Amsterdam Pirates (2011-2013) and HCAW (2015-2017, 2019).

After his college-career at Ventura College and Bethany College and after having played in some Summer Leagues, Rowland played in several professional Independent Leagues throughout the USA since 2012.
Through the years, Rowland played for a variety of teams and different leagues.

In 2013, Rowland played for Alexandria Aces in the United League, which was located in Texas, but dissolved in early 2015.
He returned to the Pecos League for the 2014 season and then again played for two different teams: Raton Osos and Las Vegas Train Robbers.
After not having played professionally in 2015 and 2016, Phillip Rowland played in another Independent League in 2017.
This time in the Empire Pro League (based in the state of New York), playing for Road City Explorers.
Another new Independent League followed in 2018 when he played for Martinez Clippers in the Pacific Association, which was based in California.
From this season on, he primarily was a pitcher.
Rowland also played in this league in 2019 for San Rafael Pacifics and Salina Stockade.
For these two teams combined, he struckout 39 batters in 37 1/3 inning.
In the 2020 season, Rowland played for California Dogecoin in the Liberation League (California), where he also served as Pitching Coach and Assistant Coach.
In this season, he struckout 41 batters and walked 32 in 40 innings pitched.
In 2021, Rowland briefly played for Salem Senators (one game) in the Mavericks League (Oregon).
He then returned to the Pecos League and played for Wasco Reserve (in 2022) and Vallejo Seaweed (in 2023).
There, for both teams, he also was the Pitching Coach and Assistant Coach.
During the 2022 season, Rowland pitched in 20 innings (15 strikeouts, 32 walks).
Last year, he threw 38 1/3 inning with 41 strikeouts and 22 walks.
