PULLY (Switzerland) -
The Final Phase of the European Baseball Championship will be played next year in the Netherlands.
On Thursday (August 22), WBSC Europe awarded the organization to the Royal Netherlands Baseball and Softball Federation (KNBSB).
The Neptunus Familiestadion, the home-stadium of Curaçao Neptunus in Rotterdam, will be the playing-site.
In the First Round (of Phase), the sixteen participating countries will be divided into four groups, each with four teams.
Two of these groups will be hosted in the Netherlands, the other two in a location, which has not yet announced.
The two best teams from each group will advance to the Final Phase (Quarter Finals, Semi-Finals, Final), which will be played in Rotterdam.
Including the First Round, the European Championship will take place September 20-27.
It will mark the eleventh time that the European Championship will be organized in the Netherlands and the first time since 2016.
In 1958 and 1962, Amsterdam hosted the event.
In 1973, 1977, 1981, 1985 and 1995, Haarlem was the playing site.
During the tournament in 1995, some games were also played in Heemstede.
In 2003, the Championship was played in Haarlem, Amsterdam and Rotterdam with Haarlem hosting the Final.
Hereafter, in 2012, Rotterdam, Haarlem and Vleuten were the playing sites.
And this time, the Final was played in Rotterdam for the first time.
In 2016, Hoofddorp was the main-site with some games also being played in Nieuw-Vennep.
