Starting Pitchers coming series
Nederlands
AMSTERDAM (Neth.) -
The upcoming 3-game series is one of two consecutive series that has a different scheduling opposed the other series, as they will begin on Wednesday-evening, instead of Thursday-evening.
The reason for this is that only game is scheduled in the weekend instead of two.
While compiling this season's schedule, it was decided (and agreed by the clubs), that in the highest league no games would be scheduled on Saturday, April 27 (King's Day) and on Sunday, May 5 (National Liberation Day).
With that, the weekend-game moved to Wednesday-evening.
And so, the upcoming new series opens tonight (Wednesday, April 24) to be followed by games on Thursday-evening and coming Sunday-afternoon.
In next week's series, games also will be played on Wednesday- and Thursday-evening, then will be completed the following Saturday-afternoon.
However, when games need to be cancelled due to weather-conditions, it can create a busy schedule for some teams.
Which is the case this week.
Last Thursday-evening, the openers of the Worldwide Pharma Logistics Hoofddorp Pioniers vs. Amsterdam Pirates-series in Hoofddorp and the RCH-Pinguïns vs. DSS/Kinheim-series in Heemstede were cancelled due to field-conditions after rain.
Both games were re-scheduled for Tuesday-evening (yesterday).
After having played on Saturday in respectively Amsterdam and Haarlem, the games scheduled for Sunday in Hoofddorp and Heemstede again were cancelled due to field-conditions.
These games were re-scheduled for last Monday-evening.
That meant that Pirates, Pioniers, RCH-Pinguïns and DSS/Kinheim would have four consecutive games scheduled on Monday through Thursday.
On Sunday-evening, the make-up game between RCH-Pinguïns and DSS/Kinheim, scheduled for Monday-evening, was moved to next Tuesday.
According to reports, this was done at the request of both teams.
On Tuesday, the other make-up game between RCH-Pinguïns and DSS/Kinheim ended in a 6-6 tie in a game that ended after nine innings, due to the 10:30 PM curfew-rule.
DSS/Kinheim led 6-4 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, but RCH-Pinguïns then came alongide.
Pirates and Pioniers played both make-up games.
On Monday, Pirates won 12-2.
On Tuesday, Pioniers recorded its first win of the season with a 3-1 score in a game that ended after 7½ inning due to the curfew-rule.
Because of the make-up games, the starting rotations of Pioniers, RCH-Pinguïns and DSS/Kinheim are not complete yet at the moment, as the coaches have to do some puzzling to see which of their pitchers are available.
In the upcoming series, Curaçao Neptunus has no games scheduled.
Beneath are the announced starting pitchers for the third 3-game series of the 2024 season that opens on Wednesday-evening, April 24.
As always, these pitching assignments can change on game-days.
