Nederlands
AMSTERDAM / NIEUWEGEIN (Neth.) -
On Saturday (January 10), the Royal Netherlands Baseball and Softball Federation (KNBSB) announced that coming Wednesday-evening (January 14), a memorial will be orgazined for Sidney de Jong, who unexpectedly passed away this week.
Also, a Foundation will be created in his name.
The KNBSB published the following:
Earlier this week, the sad news was announced that baseball-legend Sidney de Jong had passed away at far too young an age.
The De Jong family will bid Sidney farewell in a private ceremony on Thursday, January 15.
A memorial-service will be organized on Wednesday, January 14, at the site of Amsterdam Pirates for anyone who wishes to commemorate the former captain of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Team.
The commemoration will take place at Loek Loevendie Ballpark, the place where Sidney de Jong played and coached for many years.
There will be an opportunity to pay your last respects in the indoor sports-hall beneath the clubhouse, leave a message in the condolence-register, and say goodbye to a man who, as a player, coach, and human being, made a deep impression on the baseball-community and beyond.
The family sincerely requests that no flowers or floral arrangements be brought and asks that those present allow them peace and quiet during the commemoration.
A Sidney de Jong Foundation will be established for anyone who wishes to pay their last respects to De Jong.
More information about this will follow as soon as possible.
