THE HAGUE (Neth.) - ADO, which is led this season by new Head Coach Aldric Dunlop, started its exhibition season today with a surprise 5-4 loss against its First Division-team ADO 2. ADO outhit their minor league-squad 7-6, but the team, which tied the score at 4-4 in the seventh, gave up three unearned runs, resulting in the loss.
ADO-2 started the game well, scoring three runs in the first inning off of starter Swendymar Kleinmoedig, who made his debut in an ADO-uniform.
The righthander hit the lead-off batter with a pitch, then committed an fielding error on a following grounder and loaded the bases with a walk.
Kleinmoedig then appeared to recover by striking out the next batter, but gave up two runs, as he issued another walk, followed by a second hits batter.
A single by Raily Godfrey then made it 3-0, before an infield-fly and a strikeout ended the at bat.
ADO-2 starter Claro Sarmiento retired the first seven batters he saw, before giving up an one-out single to Rodrinov Faries in the third.
Faries then stole second, advanced on a throwing error and was able to score when an error in centerfield followed.
After two scoreless innings, ADO-2 got the run back in the sixth off new pitcher Brent Henry.
The lefthanded American made his debut by making a fielding error on the first batter he faced in the fourth, but didn't gave up any hits in the first two innings he pitched.
In the sixth, with two outs, he gave up two singles, putting runners on first and third.
A throwing error in a stolen base-situation then gave ADO-2 a 4-1 lead.
In the home of the sixth, ADO came back to 4-3.
Jeoffrey de Groot, who is a pitcher of the main squad, took over the pitching in the ADO-2 team in the fifth and gave up two runs in the sixth.
With one out, Siegmar Eustacio (another newcomer) reached on an infield-hit, then René van Duuren doubled. An error in leftfield followed, enabling Eustacio to score.
An error on a grounder by Michel Korzeniewski (one of the few players, who remained with ADO after last season) enabled Van Duuren to score, but then two outs followed.
In the seventh inning, ADO came alongside.
Gregory Hassell led off with a walk, then stole second base and advanced on a bunt-single by Sergeď Leon, before scoring in a fielder's choice situation.
ADO-2 regained the lead in the eighth off Bobbie van Duuren, who walked the lead-off batter, who eventually would score the run.
ADO got its lead-off batter on base in its eighth when René van Duuren reached on an infield-hit, then stole both second and third base, but he stranded there.
With Van Duuren on first base, Michel Korzeniewski flied out and with the runner on second and third respectively, rookies Luigino Domacasse and Niels Weiss struckout.
In the ninth, Quensley Bazoer walked with two outs, but then the inning and the game ended with a pop-fly, giving ADO-2 te win.
