BUSSUM (Neth.) - In its second exhibition game of the season, Mr. Cocker HCAW was beaten 9-1 in a 10-inning game vs. Konica Minolta Pioniers, which last year reached the Holland Series, but again was left empty-handed vs. Corendon Kinheim, which captured the title for the second year in a row. In today's exhibition game, one of five being played, Pioniers outhit HCAW, 16-3, but decided that game late. Leading only 2-1, the team from Hoofddorp scored four runs in the seventh to break open the game.

With the bases loaded and no outs, Pioniers scored only one run in this inning, which was the result of next batter Bart Sabel being hit by a delivery from HCAW-starter Forstin Coenraad. Last season, he pitched for Instant Holland Almere '90, which lost almost all players after relegating to the First Division.
Still with the bases loaded and no outs, Michael Duursma grounded to third to set up a force out at home, but then the HCAW-defense completed a double play, as Muzo was thrown out at third.
Pioniers got the bases loaded for the third time in the inning when newcomer Mervin Gario (ex-Robur '58) singled, but the inning ended when next batter Glenn Romney popped out.
HCAW tied the score in the third inning, as Czech pitcher Jan Rehacek, who came on in relief for starter Daan de Jong, failed to hold the lead.
He walked the first two batters he faced, Diederik Klaassen and Siemen Korff, then also walked Adrian Anthony with one out to load the bases.
But HCAW also managed to score only one run, which came after Jermaine Esprit reached on a bunt-single.
Then, a strikeout and a flyout ended the inning.
In the fourth inning, Pioniers re-took the lead.
With two outs, Michael Duursma walked, stole second, then scored when Mervin Gario reached on a throwing error.
Moments later, the inning ended when Gario tried to score on a single by Glenn Romney, but was thrown out at the plate on a throw by centerfielder Ronald Jaarsma.
But Pioniers had taken the lead and would hold to it this time.
The team from Hoofddorp rallied for four (unearned) runs in the seventh inning to take a commanding 6-1 lead.
Rutger Zwaal, HCAW's fourth pitcher, got the bases loaded with one out, then enabled a run to be scored on a wild pitch.
With two outs, two more runs were scored as a result of a throwing error, then a single by Jeffrey de Vrieze (who came over from Almere '90) gave Pioniers its fourth run in the at bat.
In the eighth, Pioniers added a run when Jeffrey de Vrieze, who was brought in as a pinch-hitter to give him an extra at bat, and homered with one out.
In the tenth inning, Pioniers scored two more runs.
Michael Duursma led off with a single off new pitcher Bart Gabriëls, then scored when Mervin Gario followed with a triple.
The rookie then scored himself on a wild pitch.
After scoring their run in the third inning, HCAW didn't got much chances to add more runs.
Since the third, nine batters were retired in order, before Siemen Korff and Shurty Tremus walked to open the sixth inning, but a double play and a groundout followed.
HCAW then got its best scoring opportunity in the tenth inning.
Pionier-closer Robin van Doornspeek then walked Ralph Milliard, Ronald Jaarsma and Bart Gabriëls to open the inning, but then struckout next batter Randy Daal and saw Ricky Daal and Juriën Overman pop up the ball to end the game.
As weather predictions were unfavorable for tomorrow, both teams decided to play ten innings and use several pitchers.
Both teams used six pitchers, who combined walked 20 batters!
After the game, it was decided to cancel tomorrow's game.
