Meadows, Oosterveld to play for Olympia Haarlem

HAARLEM (Neth.) - Pitcher Lindsey Meadows and infielder/outfielder Merel Oosterveld, both members of the Dutch National Team, will play for Olympia Haarlem in 2013. While it was more or less known already in the last few days that both were heading to Haarlem, the transfer was officially confirmed today (Tuesday, October 30) when Olympia Haarlem announced its transfers. Also coming to the club is pitcher Dominique Sprengers (DSS).


...Lindsey Meadows...

Lindsey Meadows pitched in Italy the last two seasons, playing for Nuoro (2011) and Bollate (2012). Before that, she was the pitching ace for Tex Town Tigers from 2005-2010 with whom she won two Dutch championships. This season, pitching for Bollate, she was 10-4 with 117 strikeouts in 94 2/3 inning, walking only 15 batters and giving up 57 basehits. Her ERA of 1.11 was third best in the Italian Softball League. As a batter, Lindsey Meadows hit .286 with three homeruns, 12 runs scored and 13 RBI's.


...Merel Oosterveld...

Outfielder Merel Oosterveld, who also played at 2nd base several times, played in the Dutch big league for Tex Town Tigers since 2005. This season, she led the team in hitting with a .434 average, in runs scored (34) and in stolen bases (22), while collecting 16 runs batted in.

Dominique Sprengers was a member of the Dutch Junior Team that captured the European championship-title this season. Playing with the Juniors in the big league, she was 1-1, appearing in seven games.

Short stop Courtney Bures will return to the team next year. The American player led the team this season in hitting (.451), runs scored (44), basehits (55), doubles (17), homeruns (9) and RBI's (30).

Leaving Olympia Haarlem are Judi Kroneman and Lisanne van den Berg. The first will play for Amsterdam Pirates in 2013, while the latter stopped due to study-reasons, but remains available to play if needed.

In 2013, Olympia Haarlem will be led again by Caroline Powell, who was the Head Coach of the team in the previous three seasons. She will be assisted again by Inge Consent.
