Dutch Softball Team again in World Championship Play-Offs

HAARLEM (Neth.) - The Netherlands Softball Team has qualified for the Play-Ofs of the ISF Women's World Championship for the third consecutive time. After qualificiations in 2010 (Venezuela) and 2012 (Canada), the Dutch Softbal Team again belongs to the top-8 of the international softball-world.

Tonight (Thursday, August 21), on Day 7 of the World Championship in Haarlem, the Dutch Team shutout Botswana 12-0 to close preliminary play in Group B to improve its record to 4-3. Earlier in the day, the clinching of the Orange team already was secured when Chinese Taipei defeated Great Britain.

Ginger de Weert went the distance against Botswana and struckout 10 batters, while giving up one basehit.

The Dutch Team collected nine basehits, including two by Britt Vonk, Virginie Anneveld and Merel Oosterveld. After tonight's game, Vonk and Anneveld now lead an offensive category in this tournament. Anneveld went 2-for-2 and now leads the event with 11 basehits. Vonk scored three runs tonight to bring her total to a tournament-leading nine.

The Orange squad was bout to open the Championship Round on Friday-evening at 6 PM against China, but all scheduled games rained out.

The Dutch Team now meets China on Saturday, August 23, starting at 12:30 PM.
