Canadian pitcher Tex Town Tigers arrives this week

ENSCHEDE (Neth.) - Tex Town Tigers will welcome Canadian pitcher Alana Westerhof later this week. The 23-year old righthanded pitcher, who also can play in the outfield and at some infield-positions, will make her debut with the Enschede-squad later this month during the exhibition season. That includes the international J.C.J. Mastenbroek Tournament on April 3-5 at the home site of the club in Enschede.

This season, Tex Town Tigers will make its comeback in the highest division, which is now named Golden League. Following last season, Tex Town Tigers, which then played in the second highest division ('Overgangsklasse'), qualified for the promotion Play-Offs and finished in a tie for fourth place with UVV. Tex Town Tigers then won an one-game play-off against UVV to promote back to the big league.

The last three seasons, Alana Westerhof (with this name, she must have Dutch ancestors) played for the Thunderbirds, the team of the University of British Columbia in Vancouver (Canada).

Last season, Alana Westerhof had the lowest ERA of her team with 3.25. She was 9-9 in 20 games, 17 of which she started (nine complete games). In 103 1/3 inning, Westerhof struckout 99 batters, walked 35 and gave up 102 basehits. Offensively, she batted .288 (21-for-73) with two homeruns, scored 20 runs and batted in 16. In March last year, she set a school record by striking out 15 batters in one game. After completion of the season, she was named to the Association of Independent Institutions All-Conference Second Team as a utility player.

In the 2013 season, Alana Westerhof was 7-3 with a 3.21 ERA and 66 strikeouts in 72 innings. She was the third best hitter of the team with a .348 average (49-for-141), hit seven homeruns, scored 29 runs and batted in and team-high 45. She also was named All Athlete of the Week in February of 2013.

In 2012, she was 1-2 with a 9.28 ERA in eleven games, striking out 22 batters in 32 innings. In the summer of 2012, she played for Team British Columbia, earning the silver medal in Nova Scotia.

In the past, she has played for the Delta Invaders and Delta Heat, which are part of the successful Delta Heat Fastpitch Society, which annually fields teams in several age-categories. At age 16, she won four tourmaments with Delta Heat in 2007. She was also named team-MVP frequently since 2002.
