 Euro Stars shuts out Gryphons to register first win

Gryphons and Euro Stars split their double-header on Saturday (May 2).
Gryphons nipped Euro Stars 4-3 in the opener to win its second game of the season.
In Game 2, Euro Stars shutout Gryphons 10-0 in five innings to register its first victory of the year.

Game 1
In today's opener, Gryphons initially faced a 2-0 deficit, as Euro Stars scored twice in the first at bat.
With one out, Kirsten Molle walked, moved on a wild pitch, then scored on a triple by Rachel Schouten.
The latter then scored the next run on a sacrifice fly by Davinia de Kwant.
Gryphons answered with three runs in the bottom of the second inning off of Alli Edgtton, who made her first appearance of the season for Euro Stars.
Maureen van Poorten led off with a double, then Manya Krijgsman singled.
A sac-fly by Jasmijn Besselink then brought in the first run.
Next, Linda Hanegraaf doubled to bring in the tying run.
She then advanced on passed ball and scored the go-ahead run for Gryphons when Maruja Isbouts reached on an error.
The lead was shortlived, as Euro Stars came alongside in the third inning.
With one out and pinch-runner Kim van der Valk on first base, Davinia de Kwant reached on an error, which led to runners on second and third base.
A walk for Wendy van der Hoeven loaded the bases.
Next, Van der Valk scored beating the throw to home plate on a force play-grounder by Kimberly van der Lee.
With the bases loaded, a pitching change followed, then the next two batters were retired, meaning three runners were left behind.
In the remainder of the game, Euro Stars was held scoreless and it added only one more basehit off of Emma Holden.
Gryphons decided the game in the sixth inning.
With two outs, Kehli Washington tripled, then scored what would be the winning run when Charlotte Drijvers followed with a single.

Game 2
In the second game, Euro Stars collected 14 basehits, including three by Davinia de Kwant and Anna Prins.
Shomayra Franka went the distance for Euro Stars, striking out seven and giving up only five hits.
Euro Stars scored its first two runs in the second inning.
Wendy van der Hoeven (fielder's choice) then scored on a double by Anna Prins, who went on to score herself on a single by Kim van der Valk.
Three runs were added in the third inning.
First, Manon Hogenes led off with a homerun.
With one out, Davinia de Kwant singled, moved on a passed ball, then was eliminated at the plate, trying to score on a single by Wendy van der Hoeven.
Hereafter, Anna Prins tripled and could continue scoring a run, as an outfield-error followed.
Euro Stars then decided the game with a 5-run rally in the fourth at bat on six basehits.
Renske Jansen led off with a single, then Onaisha Franka also singled.
This brought the lead runner to third base and she was able to score when an error followed, which brought Franka to third base.
With two outs and Kirsten Molle (fielder's choice) on first base, Davinia de Kwant singled.
An error on a grounder by Wendy van der Hoeven then led to the next run.
Hereafter, Anna Prins, Eliza van 't Zelfde and Kim van der Valk all delivered runscoring singles to lift the lead to 10-0.
Gryphons got into scoring position twice.
In the first inning, Linda Hanegraaf singled with two outs and stole second base, but then stranded.
In the fourth, Manya Krijgsman singled, moved on a grounder by Ellinor Keepers and a passed ball, but was then left at third base.
