Netherlands vs. Russia (Final)
In the Final, both teams left a runner in scoring position in the first inning.
For Russia, Daria Semenova singled with one out off of Dutch starter Lisa Hop.
She advanced on a wild pitch, but then was left behind.
For the Orange squad, Annemiek Jansen walked with one out and advanced on a grounder.
Powerhitter Laura Wissink was then walked intentionally, but both runners stranded.
Two days ago, Laura Wissink had celebrated her 19th birthday by hitting a homerun against Russia in the preliminary round.
After Russia was retired in order in the top of the second inning, the Dutch squad rallied for six runs on four hits in the bottom of the second to take dominating lead.
Rachel van Veen led off with a single off of starter Irina Ilyashenko.
The 21-year old lefthander then walked next batter Lizzie Clarijs, folowed by a runscoring double by Gabi Obia that opened the score.
Hereafter, Britt Rimmers reached on an error, which led to the next run.
A sacrifice fly by Wies Ligtvoet and following single by Annemiek Jansen then lifted the lead to 4-0.
Jansen then moved on a wild pitch and also advanced when another wild pitch resulted in a walk for Manoa Weijgertse, who stole second base moments later.
With runners on second and third base, a strikeout followed, but Isa Los then delivered a 2-run single that made it 6-0.

Lisa Hop retired the Russian side again in the third inning.
In the bottom of the third, the Orange squad got two baserunners off of new pitcher Marina Barysheva.
With one out, Gabi Obia (bunt) and Britt Remmers both singled.
After a flyout, the first was caught stealing to end the inning.
In the fourth, Russia got its first baserunner again since the first at bat when Irina Ilyashenko singled with two outs.
She moved on a wild pitch, but then was left behind.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Dutch Team took more distance.
With one out, the bases got loaded when Manoa Weijgertse singled, Laura Wissink walked and Isa Los also singled.
Rachel van Veen then delivered a 2-run single to increase the score to 8-0, which gave the Dutch Team a mercy-rule lead.
In the top of the fifth inning, Russia got one more baserunner, but was unable to do something back.
Maria Gudym led off with a single, which was only the third basehit allowed by the 17-year old Lisa Hop.
Gudym oved to second base on a wild pitch with one out, but hereafter, two grounders followed that ended the game!
And with that, the European Championship-title was captured!
