Sparks Haarlem adds two victories in Italy

RONCHI DEI LEGIONARI (Italy) -
On Day 2 of the European Premiere Cup-tournament in Italy, Dutch champion Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem again played two games.
And again registered two victories.
In today's first game, Sparks Haarlem won 7-3 against Skövde Saints (Sweden), then shutout Wesseling Vermins (Germany) 9-0 in five innings later in the day.
After having played in Cervignano del Friuli on Monday, Sparks Haarlem today played its two games in Ronchi dei Legionari.
There, Stadio Giordano Gregoret was a familiar site to some of the players, as it was there where the Netherlands National Softball Team captured the European Championship-title in 2011.
It also was the site in 2007 where the Orange squad won the Olympic Qualifying Tournament to qualify for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing (China).

Skövde Saints vs. Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem
In today's first game, Sparks Haarlem scored three runs in the second inning off of Brooke Langeloh, who had thrown a 7-inning shutout on Monday against Les Comanches (France).
The Dutch champion was retired in order in the first inning, but then struck in the next at bat.
Maxime van Dalen led off with a single and Virginie Anneveld walked, then both advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Kiki Draaijer.
The bases got loaded when next batter Jenny Kinburn was hit by a pitch.
Two runs were scored when Maaike Blaauwgeers followed with a single.
That brought Kinburn to third base, who then was unable to move on a grounder by Tammie Lijbers.
Moments later, she stole home plate to make it 3-0.
Skövde left a runner behind in scoring position in the first inning off of starter Leonella Elizabeth.
The Swedish team then got the bases loaded in the second inning without hitting a basehit.
Lina Larsson led off with a walk, then Charlotte Andersson was hit by a pitch with one out and next batter Ebba Ljunqvist also walked.
Hereafter, Elizabeth had a strong finish, as she struckout the next two batters.

Sparks Haarlem added two runs in the third inning.
With two outs, Virginie Anneveld and Kiki Draaijer singled, then both scored when a fly by next batter Jenny Kinburn was missed in the outfield.
Skövde got one run back in the bottom of the third.
With one out, Brooke Langeloh walked and scored on a following double by Kathryn McEachern.
That led to a pitching change, as Rebecca Soumeru took over for Leonella Elizabeth.
The veteran righthander saw Skövde get some baserunners in the remainder of the game, but did well, striking out nine batters.
In the fourth, Skövde scored its second run to narrow the deficit to 5-2.
With two outs, Sawyer Fried doubled and scored on a single by Maria Bergstrom, who later stranded on second base.
Sparks Haarlem left two runners behind in the fifth inning, but then took more distance by scoring two runs in the sixth.
Maaike Blaauwgeers led off with a single and was moved into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt by Tammie Lijbers.
She then scored on a double by her twin-sister Anne Blaauwgeers, who also scored herself moments later.
A throwing error on a sacrifice bunt by Kehli Washington enabled her to score and lift the lead to 7-2.
Skövde managed to add one more run in the bottom of the seventh when Langeloh tripled with one out and scored on a single by McEachern.
But hereafter, two grounders followed to end the game.

Wesseling Vermins vs. Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem
In its second game today, Sparks Haarlem registered a 9-0, mercy-rule victory on a hot afternoon.
It was more than 30 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit) with almost no wind.
Sparks Haarlem needed only five innings to complete this game, which lasted only one hours and 15 minutes.
The team opened the score with two runs in the first at bat, then decided the game with a 6-run rally in the second inning.
In the first inning, Sparks Haarlem got runners on second and third base with one out when Kehli Washington and Chantal Versluis singled.
Both scored when Maxime van Dalen followed with another single.
Hereafter, an error followed on a force play-grounder by Virginie Anneveld, then Karin Tuk delivered the fourth single in this inning.
Van Dalen was waved home, but she was eliminated at the plate.

A 6-run rally followed in the second inning.
Jenny Kinburn and Maaike Blaauwgeers (bunt) led off with singles.
With one out, Kinburn stole third base.
Moments later, a double-steal followed, resulting in Kinburn scoring a run.
Blaauwgeers later scored when an error was made on a sacrifice bunt by Kehli Washington.
Another error followed on a sac-bunt by Chantal Versluis, then the bases got loaded when Maxime van Dalen walked.
With two outs, the bases were cleared when Karin Tuk drilled a 3-run double.
Shortly hereafter, she scored herself on a following single by Kiki Draaijer to lift the lead to 8-0.
Sparks Haarlem scored its ninth run in the top of the fifth.
Jenny Kinburn then led off with a single and went on to score on a double by Cindy van der Zanden.
Kirsten Scheele went the distance for Sparks Haarlem.
The righthander retired the first eight batters in a row.
With two outs in the third inning, she gave up the lone German single to Milena Bottger, who stranded on first base.
Scheele then retired the side again in the fourth and fifth inning.

Lucerne Eagles vs. Wesseling Vermins
Wesseling scored three runs in the third inning, but saw Lucerne answer with two runs in the fourth.
The German squad then took more distance with a 4-run rally in the fifth at bat.
Wesseling collected 13 basehits, including three by Alina Vom Bruck.
Leading only 3-2, the Germans struck in the fifth inning.
Katharina Szalay led off with a double and Alina Vom Bruck reached on a bunt-single with one out, then Lisa Marie Kollner followed with a 3-run homerun to decide the game.
Bussolengo Specchias vs. Joudrs Praha
Bussolengo won only 1-0 and scored the lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
With one out, Madeline McIntyre doubled, then Lisa Birocci was walked intentionally with two outs to set up a force play.
But hereafter, Silvia Refrontolotto followed with a double that led to the lone run.
Winning pitcher Brandice Balschmiter went the distance for Bussolengo, struckout eleven batters and gave up only three hits.
Forlì vs. Hoboken Pioneers
Forlì reached the 10-run difference in the fourth inning and collected 11 basehits in this game.
Leading 1-0, Forlì scored five runs in the third, then added four in the fourth.
Emily Vincent was 3-for-3 for the Italians with a double and triple, scored two runs and also batted in two.
Andrea Montanari had two doubles, scored twice and batted in two.
Ilaria Cacciamani went the distance for Forlì, struckout seven and gave up only two hits.

Les Comanches vs. Lucerne Eagles
Les Comanches trailed 1-0 after the first inning, came alongside in the second, took the lead in the third, then struck with four runs in the fourth inning.
The French squad collected nine basehits, including two doubles by both Eva Trevisan and Lizzie Clarijs.
Trevisan also scored twice and batted in two runs.
In this game, Clarijs faced a Terrasvogels-teammate, as Danielle Bonnet was the designated player for Lucerne.
She went 1-for-2 (double).
Bussolengo Specchias vs. Skövde Saints
Bussolengo not only shutout Skövde 7-0, it also held the Swedish squad hitless.
Madison Osias went the distance for the Italians, struckout five batters and threw a No-Hitter.
Bussolengo collected 11 basehits, including triples by Madeline McIntyre and Lisa Birocci.
The team rallied for five runs in the third inning.
Joudrs Praha vs. Hoboken Pioneers
After five scoreless innings, Joudrs scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning off of Lindsey Meadows, who went the distance for Hoboken.
Dina Pfeiferova led off with a bunt-single, then two throwing errors followed on a sacrifice bunt by Apolena Výborna, which enabled both to score.
Winning pitcher Veronika Pecková struckout 13 batters and gave up only one basehit.
Her No-Hitter ended with two outs in the top of the sixth inning when Laura Wissink singled.
Hoboken got into scoring position only once and that happened in the first inning.
With one out, Celine Janssens walked and moved on a wild pitch with two outs, but then stranded.
Forlì vs. Les Comanches
Forlì trailed 1-0 after the first inning, but then scored three runs in the second inning and held the French opponent scoreless.
The tying run was scored with one out on a triple by Giulia Mattioli, who later scored the go-ahead run in a steal-situation.
A single by Carlotta Onofri then made it 3-1.
Forlì registered only five basehits off of starter Sarah Benchali, then was held hitless by Lizzie Clarijs in the next two innings.
Winning pitcher Jessica Moore struckout eight batters and gave up four basehits.
