Terrasvogels wins twice in Haarlem Series
Nederlands

HAARLEM (Neth.) - Terrasvogels won both of its games on Saturday (March 26) in the three-team-triple-header on the site of Onze Gezellen. The games were part of the Haarlem Series, which was organized for the second time by Onze Gezellen.

Last year, the club organized a 4-team, two-day, baseball-tournament. Unfortunately, the games on the second day rained out. This year, a 5-team, three-day, baseball-tournament was organized. For the first time, softball-games were included. Initially, it was proposed to make this also a 2-day event. But only three teams participated, who were not in favor of playing two days, as for softball-teams this is early in their exhibition season. And so, a triple-header was scheduled with the three teams facing each other and all playing two games in an one-day event.

Host Onze Gezellen played against Terrasvogels in the opener of the triple-header. Terrasvogels won big with a 19-0 score.

In the next game, Onze Gezellen met DSS and lost 11-2.

The triple-header ended with the game between Golden League-teams Terrasvogels and DSS. In this game, Terrasvogels came from behind and won 5-4.

(March 26)

Onze Gezellen vs. Terrasvogels
In the opening game, Terrasvogels pounded 20 basehits off of two pitchers to win with a huge 19-0 score. Fourteen of these basehits were registered by the first four batters, including four by Dervisa Mutic and Ella Krommendijk. Kimberly Jones and Jessie van Aalst both had three hits. Mutic and Jones also scored four runs, while Krommendijk and Van Aalst both batted in four runs. Mutic and Van Aalst both missed the homerun to hit-for-the-cycle.

Terrasvogels scored four runs in the opening at bat. Newcomer Dervisa Mutic led off with a single, moved on an error and a passed ball, then scored on a following single by Ella Krommendijk. Kimberly Jones followed with another single and then Jessie van Aalst delivered a 2-run triple and went on to score herself on a 2-out single by Malou van Dusschoten.

Terrasvogels showed some more offensive power when a 9-run rally followed in the third at bat on seven basehits, including four doubles and a triple. Jessica Waasdorp led off with a double, then Malou van Dusschoten singled. A run was then scored in a steal-situation. After Sanne Korpel walked, a pitching change followed, but then Jeske Meewisse connected for an RBI-double. A walk for Nienke Verhofstad then loaded the bases. Korpel and Verhofstad also are newcomer in the Terrasvogels-team. Hereafter, Dervisa Mutic and Ella Krommendijk delivered back-to-back, 2-run doubles, followed by a runscoring triple by Kimberly Jones. A single by Jessica Waasdorp and a force play-grounder by Malou van Dusschoten brought in the next runs to complete the rally.

The final three runs were scored in the fourth inning, thanks to a triple by Dervisa Mutic, single by Ella Krommendijk and double by Jessie van Aalst.

Onze Gezellen collected only two basehits, which were both registered off of starting pitcher Nienke Verhofstad, who threw two innings. In the first inning, Iris Dweelaard singled with one out and in the second inning, Shannon Hetem led off with a single. However, both were eliminated in a double play.
