Nederlands
MOERGESTEL / HAARLEM / ENSCHEDE (Neth.) -
Today (Saturday, April 18), it was to Opening Day in the Golden League and the Silver League, the two highest leagues in Dutch softball.
But Opening Day was cancelled some weeks ago, as all sports-accomodations were closed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
All games have been postponed to a yet to be announced new date.

On March 15, after new measures were announced by the Dutch Government, all activities were cancelled through April 6.
That meant that all scheduled exhibition games up to that date were scrubbed.
As it would be not possible to open a new season without a proper period of preparation, the Royal Netherlands Baseball and Softball Association (KNBSB) on March 23 announced that it had cancelled all games through April 27 in order to give the teams a three-week period to prepare for an eventual start of the new season.
On March 31, Goverment-measures were extended through April 28 and all gatherings and events were cancelled and are forbidden through June 1.
Due to the government-measures, the entire exhibition season has been cancelled.
The only games that were played were those during the The Cup Indoor Tournament in January in Schiedam and during the Roef! Indoor Pre-Season Tournament in Reusel in February.
Today, Amsterdam Pirates was to make its comeback in the highest league after a 12-year absence, while Quick Amersfoort was to make its debut at the highest level.
Amsterdam Pirates, where Erik Boland and Sandra Gouverneur shares Head Coach-duties, was scheduled to play a double-header at Olympia Haarlem with new Head Coach Gregory Grampon.
Quick Amersfoort, led by Head Coach Sanne Bolhuis, was to visit Terrasvogels, which will play its home-games this season at the site of Onze Gezellen in Haarlem instead of its familiar home-site in nearby Santpoort-Zuid.
At Terrasvogels, Rob Walgien returns as Head Coach.
Dutch champion Roef!, led again by Jeroen Swers, had a double-header scheduled at home against Hoofddorp Pioniers, where Glennsig Polonius is the Head Coach again.
Last season, Roef! won the best-of-three Holland Series and dethroned reigning champion Olympia Haarlem to capture te first Championship-title in club-history.
In August, Roef! was to make its European debut in the European Premiere Cup in Italy, but that tournament recently has been cancelled by the European Softball Federation.
The fourth double-header today was to be played in Enschede, where Tex Town Tigers should have hosted Sparks Haarlem.
Peter van Dalen is the Head Coach again of Sparks Haarlem.
This season, the highest league has been expanded from six to eight teams.
Not playing in the Golden League this season is the Talent Team Holland, which was compiled from players from the Netherlands National Junior Teams.
The Talent Team played in the big league since 2010.
Last year, the team withdraw during the season.
Today (Saturday) was a cloudy day with some minor rain on some locations, but playing conditions would have been acceptable.
Unfortunately, the fields were empty.
No new dates have been announced yet when it would be possible to play softball or when to start the new season.
Of course, public health care is more important now and everyone has to comply with the measures.
Softball and baseball will be back!
But only when it is safe for everyone to return to the fields.
Following the extensions of the corona-measures,as announced by the Dutch Government on March 31, the KNBSB announced on April 1 that it had annulled all regular season-games through May 19.
With that, the KNBSB underscored its intention to give teams a 3-week period to prepare for the start of the new season.
With that, a total of 248 regular season-games have now been annulled in the highest leagues of baseball and softball only (60 baseball-big league, 84 baseball-overgangsklasse, 40 softball golden league, 40 softball silver league, 24 men softball first division).
Hundreds more have been scrubbed in lower divisions.
Coming Tuesday (April 21), the Dutch Government will come will new updates regarding the measures that are taken to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
