Tex Town Tigers and Onze Gezellen split final exhibition double-header

ENSCHEDE (Neth.) - Tex Town Tigers and Onze Gezellen played their last exhibition games on Saturday (April 24) in Enchede. There, the teams split their double-header.

In the first game, Onze Gezellen nipped Tex Town Tigers, 10-9. In the second game, the home-team won 8-1.

Coming Saturday (May 1), the regular season opens in the highest Dutch league. On that day, Tex Town Tigers will play a double-header at Quick Amersfoort. Onze Gezellen also plays two away-games, but will stay in their home-city Haarlem, as they face Sparks Haarlem. The first game begins at 1 PM.

Game 1
In the first game, Onze Gezellen led 9-4 halfway the fourth inning, but then, the suspense got back into the game and in the end, the visitors won by only one run.

Onze Gezellen opened the score with two runs in the top of the first inning off of starter Daniëlle ten Donkelaar. Noa Armirotto led off with a double and moved on a grounder. Kelsy Pieneman was then hit by a pitch. Hereafter, a good sacrifice bunt by Babs de Jonge enabled Armirotto to score the first run. The bases got loaded when Karin Tuk and Jessica Waasdorp both walked. Pieneman then scored the second run on a passed ball, but the other two runners stranded on third and second base.

Tex Town Tigers answered with three runs in its first at bat off of starter Roos-Marijn Kramer. Britt Vonk led off with a single, stole second base and scored on a single by Annemiek Jansen. She advanced to third base on a sacrifice bunt by Dinet Oosting and scored the tying run on a 2-out double by Lizzie Clarijs. Today, Clarijs played against most of her teammates of last season when they played for Terrasvogels, which merged with Onze Gezellen. Clarijs scored the go-ahead run on a single by Nadine Marinus. After next batter Aafje van Baal walked, TTT got runners on second and third base via a passed ball, but they were left behind.

Tex Town Tigers added a run in the second. Britt Vonk then reached on a bunt-single and went on to score on a force play-grounder by Dinet Oosting.

Onze Gezellen then struck in the top of the fourth with a 7-run rally with two outs off of two pitchers. Lisa Brink, who had entered the game in the third, walked lead-off hitter Jessica Waasdorp. She moved on a sacrifice bunt by Masha Meloni and a wild pitch, then scored on a 2-out triple by Lisa Meyering. Noa Armirotto then walked and Ella Krommendijk followed with a runscoring single that tied the score. After Armirotto scored on a wild pitch, Krommendijk scored the next run on a single by Amy Udink. Next batter Babs de Jonge also singled, which led to a pitching change. Shaneequa Kock took over, but she got the bases loaded when she hit Karin Tuk with a pitch. In their second at bat in this inning, Jessica Waasdorp, Masha Meloni and Desiree Adriaansz all connected for runscoring singles which lifted the lead to 9-4. Next batter Lisa Meyering hit a line drive, but that was caught by 3B Dinet Oosting, which ended the long at bat, meaning three runners were left behind.

In the bottom of the fourth, trailing 9-4, TTT got two runs back. With two outs, Dinet Oosting and Lindsey Meadows both singled and scored on a single by Lizzie Clarijs.

TTT also scored in the next two at bats to come alongside. In the fifth, Myrthe Smid walked with one out and scored on a 2-out single by Dinet Oosting. In the sixth, off of new pitcher Yala Zwakman, TTT scored twice to make it a 9-9 score. Lizzie Clarijs led off with a walk and scored on a double by Nadine Marinus. She then score the tying run on an one-out single by Tess Remmers.

Onze Gezellen re-took the lead in the top of the seventh. Pinch-hitter Amber Krijgsman led off with a single, stole second base, moved to third base on a following error, then scored on a sacrifice fly by Desiree Adriaansz.

In the bottom of the seventh, Dinet Oosting walked for TTT with one out. She moved into scoring position via a sacrifice bunt by Lindsey Meadows, but a flyout ended the attractive game.

Game 2
The second game ended in the fifth inning when Tex Town Tigers had reached a 7-run difference.

After two scoreless innings, Tex Town Tigers opened the score with a 5-run rally in the bottom of the third inning off of starter Lisa Meyering. All runs were scored with two outs. With one out, Myrthe Smid singled and with two outs, Dinet Oosting did the same. Annemiek Jansen followed with a runscoring single to open the score, as both runners scored. Next batter Lindsey Meadows walked, then Lizzie Clarijs connected for a 2-run double. Moments later, Clarijs scored the fifth run on a triple by Nadine Marinus, who was left behind on third base.

Onze Gezellen left a runner behind on second base in the first inning off of starter Ginger de Weert. The team then got a scoring opportunity in the third at bat. With one out, Noa Armirotto singled. Daniëlle ten Donkelaar then took over the pitching and got a force play-grounder from Ella Krommendijk. The latter then stole second base and Masha Meloni walked, but the inning ended when she was forced out.

In the top of the fourth, Onze Gezellen scored what would be its lone run. Karin Tuk and Jessica Waasdorp began with singles. With one out, Tuk was forced out, but Waasdorp later scored on a single by Desiree Adriaansz.

TTT added two unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth. Tess Remmers led off with a walk and moved on a wild pitch. With two outs, she scored when Dinet Oosting reached on an error. Hereafter, Annemiek Jansen walked. Amber Krijgsman then took over the pitching for Onze Gezellen, but she gave up a runscoring single to Lindsey Meadows, which made it a 7-1 score.

TTT reached the 7-run difference in the bottom of the fifth. Nadine Marinus led off with a single, then pinch-hitter Pia Siering walked. The two advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Tess Remmers. Moments later, Marinus scored the eighth run on a passed ball.
