Nederlands
AMSTERDAM (Neth.) -
Amsterdam Pirates became the first big league softball-team to play a game in the outdoor exhibition season to prepare for the upcoming season.
At home, the team played against the second team of Onze Gezellen on Saturday-afternoon (March 12).
Last month, Onze Gezellen, Roef! and big league-newcomer Neptunus participated in the indoor Pre-Season Tournament, which was organized by Roef! in Reusel.
Recap Pre-Season Tournament
Initially, Amsterdam Pirates and Onze Gezellen-2 were to play a double-header, but it was decided to play one 9-inning game, which ended with a 6-6 score.
Sandra Gouverneur, who is the new Head Coach of Pirates this season, used three pitchers, who all threw three innings.
After Sanne van der Putten had thrown the first three innings, Jasmine Lucassen threw the next three and made her Pirates-debut.
The final three innings were then thrown by Demi Brinks.
Marco Molleman, who led the Onze Gezellen-team on Saturday, also inserted three pitchers.
Yala Zwakman, Maxime Heinsbroek and Roos-Marijn Kamer also threw three innings each.
Kramer is one of the pitchers of the big league-squad of Onze Gezellen.
This season, Molleman will be the Assistant Coach of Kay van Schie at the second team.
Both the main-team and second team of Onze Gezellen will play against Amsterdam Pirates coming Saturday in Amsterdam.
Both Gouverneur and Molleman reported that it was nice weather to play and that the game was well-visited.
Although this was the first outdoor-game, there was a lot of action in both hitting and with defensive plays.
It was also reported that umpires Arjan de Wever and Bianca Dweelaard did a fine job.
The regular season opens on Saturday, April 16.
Amsterdam Pirates then will travel to Roef!, while Onze Gezellen plays at home against Sparks Haarlem.
