Pirates outhit Pioniers 14-6 on Saturday with all nine players hitting at least one basehit and six of them collecting two. Seven of the nine players scored at least once.

For Amsterdam, righthander Jos de Jong went the distance, struckout four and never ran into problems. In the first inning, he gave up an one-out single to Mark Duursma and a 2-out single to Mark-Jan Moorman. De Jong also gave up two hits in the fourth inning, which led to the lone run for Pioniers. In the seven remaining innings, he gave up only two more additional hits to the team from Hoofddorp.

Amsterdam struck with two outs in the second inning off American righthander Eddie Aucoin, who led the league this season with eleven wins. But today, he faced a solid-hitting Amsterdam-squad that decided the game with a 5-run rally. First, Bas de Jong led off with a single, then Vince Rooi doubled. But then Kenny Berkenbosch grounded out and De Jong was thrown out at home trying to score on a grounder to short by Percy Isenia. With this, Aucoin appeared to get out of the inning unharmed, but then the Pirate-offense started the 2-out rally. The first run was scored when Bas Nooij doubled, then an RBI-single by Rashid Gerard followed. After Pitching Coach Dave Draijer had visited Aucoin, Wesley Connor singled in the next run. The bases then got loaded when Roelie Henrique also singled and two more runs were added when Sidney de Jong followed with a 2-run single. A flyout then ended the at bat and stranded two runners, but Amsterdam had taken a 5-0 lead on seven basehits.

In the fourth inning, Pioniers got one run back. With one out, Mervin Gario and Randy Reiph singled to put runners at the corners. Gario then scored on a squeeze-bunt by Zerzinho Croes, but this was to be the lone run for Pioniers, as the inning ended when Jos de Jong struckout Jefferson Muzo.

From this inning on, De Jong retired 17 of the last 18 batters he faced.

In the home of the fourth, Wesley Connor had a full count when Aucoin, who was slightly injured, was replaced by Jean-Paul Gulinck. Connor walked, then Roelie Henrique singled, by a flyout ended the at bat. Amsterdam also stranded two runners in the next inning. Gulinck started by striking out Bas de Jong and Vince Rooi, but then gave up singles to Kenny Berkenbosch and Percy Isenia, but then a pop-up followed.

In the sixth inning, Swen Huijer took over for Gulinck and retired the side, including strikeouts for Gerard and Henrique. But he then ran into problems in the next at bat and was credited with three runs. He walked lead-off hitter Sidney de Jong, then hit next batter Bas de Jong. An error on a force play-grounder by Vince Rooi then led to a run. Next, Kenny Berkenbosch flied out, but Bas de Jong advanced to third and after Rooi stole second base, Percy Isenia followed with a single to bring in another run. Hereafter, Scott Ronnenbergh was brought in to replace Huijer and started by striking out Bas Nooij, but then a wild pitch enabled Rooi to score the eighth run for Amsterdam.

In the ninth inning, Jos de Jong returned to the mound for Amsterdam and ended the game in style. After a groundout, the righthander struckout Mervin Gario and Randy Reiph (both looking) to end the game and secure the third win in the Series for Amsterdam.
