Where are the Sparta-Feyenoord players heading?
ROTTERDAM (Neth.) -
When Sparta-Feyenoord decided to dissolve the baseball and softball-club, all players associated with the club became free to go to other clubs.
At the end of August, Sparta-Feyenoord relegated after losing the best-of-five Promotion/Relegation Play-Off against Mampaey The Hawks.
In the weeks thereafter, there were several talks to save the club for the future.
But it became clear soon that the relegation in combination with financial problems would become a big obstacle.
And so, on October 23, it was announced that Sparta-Feyenoord was dissolved.
As on October 31, the club handed its playing site back to the municipality of Rotterdam.
At the moment, only four players have been confirmed to go to another club, being righthanded pitcher Elton Koeiman (The Hawks), righthanded pitcher Reynaldo Sarmiento Claro (Rotterdam Orioles), infielder Anthony Vrolijk (Twins) and outfielder Kevin van Nederpelt (Zwijndrecht).
This leaves veteran lefthander Gregory Gustina without a club at the moment, as are players like lefthander Jurandi Girigori, righthander Quinn Tramm and catcher Brian Raap.
Dino Anasagasti, who was the Head Coach this season, shall not coach a baseball-team in one of the top leagues in 2013.
He plans to share his experience with a youth team of Jeka in Breda, where he lives.
,,It has been a difficult year, it still hurts'', Anasagasti said.
,,I want to take a year off and do something different, like focus on youth players.''
