Starting Pitchers coming series
AMSTERDAM (Neth.) - Two more make-up games could be played last Tuesday, plus an already scheduled game. Three games that rained out on April 28 have still to be played, two of them of Tuesday, May 8 (ADO vs. UVV; HCAW vs. Sparta-Feyenoord), the third one on Tuesday, May 22 (Pioniers vs. Pirates).

The status of two other games have yet to be determined. Sparta-Feyenoord is involved in both games. The first game, on April 5, vs. DOOR Neptunus (which won 20-0), was declared void, because Adonis Kemp coached at first base for Neptunus while being suspended. Neptunus appealed the decision, but when the game remaines invalid it has to be played in its entirety at the site of Sparta-Feyenoord. The second game, on April 29, vs. Mr. Cocker HCAW, was stopped in the seventh inning by the umpires due to remarks from some spectators. This game can be declared valid, then ending in a 6-3 win for HCAW, or it can be decided that the game has to resume in the bottom of the seventh inning. But as of now, no official word has been announced concerning the status of these two games.

In the upcoming series which open on Thursday-evening, the current top-4 meets the current bottom-4. While someone might predict that the top-4 will outscore the bottom-4, this is not a sure thing. For instance, AamigoO ADO Lakers, which shares fifth place, is in third place when looking to the team's batting average of .271.

Pitchingwise the top-4 also leads in that categories, as these four teams have the beste ERA's. The top-4 also leads the league defensively.

Sparta-Feyenoord (0-9) vs. Corendon Kinheim (9-3)
In this series, league-leader Corendon Kinheim meets last placed Sparta-Feyenoord. The latter is still winless this season, despite having the lead in several of their games, but the team simply makes to much defensive errors. They lead the league with 28 errors, which is four more than the two best defensive teams combined (Pirates and Pioniers, who made 24 together).

Last weekend, Sparta-Feyenoord saw its first two games vs. Mr. Cocker HCAW rain out, while the third one was stopped in the seventh inning by the umpires. One of the cancelled games was made up on Tuesday, resulting in a loss, but Sparta-Feyenoord scored its most runs so far in a game with eight. Head Coach Dino Anasagasti, who is still searching for a successful formula, added three players to his roster in recent days, Brynner Daal, who came from Curaçao, and Jason Leonora and Suri Betrian, who were added from Sparta-Feyenoord's Rookie Team. Rookie Theodore van Heijningen is the team's leading hitter with a .333 average.

Kinheim, which leads the league with a .305 batting average, was able to play its complete 3-game series vs. DOOR Neptunus, losing two of their games. A set-back for Kinheim was the severe injury to catcher Ramiro Balentina, one of the team's leading hitters. Last Sunday, he was hit in the face by a pitch and sustained several fractures to the cheekbone and nose area. Balentina probably will be out for at least six weeks, but on a positive note, he doesn't need surgery. Quintin de Cuba and Rachid Engelhardt now will share the catching duties in the coming weeks. Bryan Engelhardt is the team's leading hitter with a .422 batting average, but might not be eligible to play in the weekend. Last Sunday, the powerhitter was ejected and his case probably will be handled on Thursday-evening and might result in a suspension.

Mr. Cocker HCAW (3-6-1) vs. L&D Amsterdam Pirates (8-4)
Current number 2 L&D Amsterdam Pirates meets current number 7 Mr. Cocker HCAW in a series, which has always been interesting between these two teams.

In its last series, Pirates won once and lost once vs. Vaessen Pioniers, while the third game rained out. On Tuesday, Amsterdam ended up empty-handed vs. DOOR Neptunus in the first of a series of games that was moved up in the schedule due to participation in the European Cup later this month. Pitchers Ben Grover and Rob Cordemans lead the league with their low ERA's of respectively 0.33 and 0.72. The duo gave up only five runs (three earned) in 52 innings. The team also has the best defense, leading the league with a .976 fielding average. Last Tuesday's, Grover's streak of scoreless innings ended after 20 1/3. But Amsterdam has to do without it's leading hitter Bas de Jong (.333), who has a slight rib-injury. Amsterdam also still has to do without pitcher Frank van Heijst, who is still recovering from an arm-inury.

HCAW saw it's game vs. Sparta-Feyenoord on Sunday being halted by the umpires, while leading 6-3. The first two games of this series rained out. On Tuesday, one of the games was made up, ending in a 10-8 victory. Linoy Croes is HCAW's leading hitter with a .290 average. The team hopes to have outfielder Jasper Keijzer back soon, as he is currently sidelined with an ankle-injury.

Vaessen Pioniers (7-3-1) vs. UVV (4-7)
Third placed Vaessen Pioniers meets UVV, which shares fifth place. And so UVV's Head Coach Frank Koene will face his former team for the first time this season. Koene was the Head Coach of Pioniers in 2007-2009.

In its last series, Pioniers won one of two games vs. L&D Amsterdam Pirates, while the third game rained out. Lead-off hitter Michael Duursma is still the best hitter of the Hoofddorp-team, batting .406 and he also leads the team with 13 runs batted in, which by far is the most of the team.

UVV has won its last three games in a row. That streak started with a 9-6 win vs. DOOR Neptunus, then two wins followed in its last series vs. AamigoO ADO Lakers. Two games of that series rained out, but one of them was made up last Tuesday. Danny Rombley and rookie Stijn van der Meer are the team's leading hitter with a .341 batting average.

AamigoO ADO Lakers (4-7) vs. DOOR Neptunus (8-4)
Fourth placed DOOR Neptunus faces ADO AamigoO ADO Lakers, which is in a tie for fifth place.

In its last series, Neptunus won two of three games vs. Corendon Kinheim and added a come-from-behind victory on Tuesday-evening vs. L&D Amsterdam Pirates. Veteran Raily Legito leads the team with a .362 batting average. The Rotterdam-squad probably has to do this series without its second best hitter Benjamin Dille (.333), as the second baseman needed six stitches in his leg after being injured during the making of a double play on Tuesday.

ADO Lakers dropped from the top-4 and now has a losing streak of five games. In its last series vs. UVV the first two games rained out, the a loss followed on Sunday and another one on Tuesday in a make-up game. In both games, ADO outhit its opponent, but was left empty-handed. Ludwin Obispo leads the team in hitting, but also is still the best hitter in the league. On Tuesday-evening, he added a single to keep his hitting streak intact and extend it to eleven games. With the basehit, his batting average is now .500 (20-for-40) and he also leads the league in On Base Percentage (.583) and Basehits (20). ADO hopes to to activate outfielder Quensley Bazoer soon again. He twisted his ankle in the opening game on April 5 and has been sidelined since.
