Pirates wins; Neptunus clinches Holland Series
Nederlands
AMSTERDAM (Neth.) - L&D Amsterdam Pirates on Monday-evening won 3-2 vs. Corendon Kinheim to complete the game that was halted by rain the day before. Because of the win, DOOR Neptunus, the leader in the Play-Offs, clinches a spot in the Holland Series, that will begin on Thursday, August 16.

On Sunday-afternoon, the game between Amsterdam and Kinheim was halted in the bottom of the 8th inning with one out and an 1-1 score when a heavy rainshower made the field unplayable. The game resumed on Monday-evening, with Arshwin Asjes, who had taken over the pitching for Kinheim, returning to the mound. He completed the inning, then a scoreless ninth at bat followed.

In the 10th inning, Kinheim took a 2-1 lead off of new pitcher Jurrian Koks, thanks to a sacrifice fly by Bryan Engelhardt.

In the bottom of the 10th inning, the two tie-break runners of Amsterdam advanced on a sac-bunt by Roelie Henrique. A force play was then created by walking next batter Sidney de Jong intentionally. But after Percy Isenia was retired, Bas de Jong followed with a line drive single that enabled two runners to score and give Amsterdam a 3-2 victory.

On Sunday, an incident in the third inning led to Kinheim playing the remainder of the game under protest. In the at bat, with two outs and Sidney de Jong in the batter's box, Kinheim-starter Nick Veltkamp was about to start his wind-up when De Jong stepped out. Catcher Ramiro Balentina stood up and also stepped out, while Home Plate Umpire Fred Groenewegen called a 'time out'. However, Veltkamp continued his wind-up with the ball hitting Groenewegen, who was left unprotected, as Balentina had stepped out. After being hit, Groenewegen ejected Veltkamp, which led to a heated discussion from the side of Kinheim, which then filed a protest.

With Amsterdam's win, DOOR Neptunus qualified for the Holland Series. Even in case Neptunus ends up losing the upcoming 3-game series against Pirates, the Rotterdam-squad is secured of a spot in the final, as it has a better head-to-head result against either Corendon Kinheim and Vaessen Pioniers in case one of these teams end up in a tie with Neptunus.
