Hainley Statia was drafted in by the Anaheim Angels in the ninth round of the 2004 MLB June Amateur Draft, while playing for Trinity Christian Academy in Deltona (Florida). In 2005, he made his professional debut, playing in 68 games in the Rookie League-team and 23 games in the Single-A Short Season-team of the Angels.

In the following seasons, Statia was promoted to higher levels and made his debut on the Triple-A level in 2009, playing in four games for the Salt Lake Bees. In 2010, Statia played in only 34 games (30 Triple-A, 4 Double-A) in the Angels-organization.

Statia, who was born in Willemstad (Curaçao), was then signed by the Milwaukee Brewers and played in 95 games for the Huntsville Stars in Double-A in 2011. This season, Statia played in both Double-A and Triple-A again. In 59 games for Huntsville, he batted .244 (52-for-213) and in 49 games for the Triple-A Nashville Sounds, Statia batted .279 (36-for-129). Combined, Statia batted .257 this season, scored 33 runs and had 28 runs batted in.

In 2006, Statia made his debut in the Dutch National Baseball Team, participating in the first World Baseball Classic. He also was a member of the Dutch squad during the second edition of the WBC in 2009, but then was replaced on the roster for the Second Round due to an injury. Statia also participated with the Orange in the 2007 European Championship/Olympic Qualifier in Barcelona (Spain), the World Championship of 2007 in Taiwan and of 2009 in the Netherlands and Italy. This year, Statia returned to the Dutch Team after a 3-year absence and participated in the European Championship, where the Dutch Team played its games in Rotterdam (Netherlands), where it had to settle for the Silver medal. In total, Statia has appeared in 48 international games for the Dutch.

Last month, 3B Jonathan Schoop, who was a member of the Dutch Team that captured the World Championship-title in 2011, was added to the 40-man roster of the Baltimore Orioles. Schoop was one of two talented players who were added to protect to from being taken by other clubs during the Rule 5 Draft during the Winter Meetings, which were held this week in Nashville. The 21-year old Schoop batted .246 in 124 games this season with the Bowie Baysox, the Double-A team of the Orioles. After completion of the season, Schoop batted .270 with two homeruns and 10 RBI's in 21 games in the Arizona Fall League and was named to the Rising Stars Game, which is the AFL All Star Game.

Also last month, two Major League-players with a Dutch passport opted for free agency, being pitcher Jair Jurrjens (Atlanta Braves) and outfielder Andruw Jones (New York Yankees).
