ST. PETERSBURG, Florida (USA ) - The Dutch National Baseball Team on Thursday-afternoon suffered a small 3-1 loss vs. the Detroit Tigers on Day 3 of the St. Petersburg International Baseball Series. Defensively, the Dutch squad played much better that two days ago vs. the Canadian Juniors, making no errors, but offensively collected only five basehits.

The Dutch Team opened the score in the third inning when Eugène Kingsale doubled with two outs, moved on an error on a grounder by Yurendell de Caster and scored on a double by Bryan Engelhardt. However, in the home of the third inning, the Tigers came alongside. The Tigers, who sent a team of single-A and double-A players to St. Petersburg, then scored off Diegomar Markwell, who had taken over the pitching for starter Rob Cordemans.

In the seventh inning, Detroit decided the game by scoring two runs off new pitcher Berry van Driel. The reliever walked two batters, who then advanced on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a sacrifice fly by Dixon Machado and a triple by Daniel Fields to make it 3-1.

In the fifth inning, the Dutch got Dwayne Kemp scoring position after he doubled, but he also was the last runner, as the next 15 batters were retired in order.
