Huge win for Pioniers
Nederlands
ROTTERDAM / VLEUTEN (Neth.) -
Vaessen Pioniers scored seven runs in the first inning on Friday-evening vs. Sparta-Feyenoord, then rallied for 12 more in the second at bat to take a more than comfortable 19-2 lead.
And so, the all-time record of most runs in one game came into jeopardy.
In 1998, Mr. Cocker HCAW scored 28 runs in a game vs. PSV, but in the end, Pioniers ended up four runs shy of tying the record.
In the last five innings of this 7-inning contest, Pioniers added only five more runs to win the game 24-3.
The 24 runs are the most this season in one game, passing DOOR Neptunus, who scored 22 runs vs. Sparta-Feyenoord in the Opening Weekend.
Pioniers collected 18 basehits, including three by Jourick Blanco, Michael Pluijmers and Kevin Dirksen.
Blanco singled, doubled and homered and reached base six times.
In the first at bat, the first seven batters reached base safely, including four on a walk, while the other three registered a basehit.
In the second inning, the first 17 (!) batters all reached base, including two that hit a force play-grounder that retired a previous runner.
All nine players reached base and all scored a run, while eight of them hit a basehit.
Seven players had at least one RBI in this at bat.
When the top of the second inning ended, all nine players in the Pioniers batting order had batted three times, while lead-off hitter Zerzinho Croes batted four times.
Of the Sparta-Feyenoord order, the eighth and ninth batter still had to step up to the plate for their first at bat in the game!
At Vleuten, DOOR Neptunus led 2-1 after three innings, then took more distance in the three middle innings.
The Rotterdam-squad scored four runs in the fourth, added three in the fifth and scored another run in the sixth en route to an 11-4 victory.
Neptunus collected 15 basehits (only four more than UVV), including three by Rafaël Jozefa and Raily Legito, with the latter hitting two doubles.
A 2-run single by Adrian Anthony gave Neptunus an early 2-0 lead in the second inning, but UVV answered with a run in its second at bat.
In the fourth, Neptunus scored four runs on five hits to take more distance.
Trailing 10-2, UVV scored twice in the seventh inning on a 2-out, 2-run homerun by Danny Rombley, his first fourbagger of the season.
