Cordemans ties All Time Win Record
Nederlands
HOOFDDORP / ROTTERDAM / THE HAGUE (Neth.) - On Thursday-evening, veteran pitcher Rob Cordemans entered the record-books once more, as he earned his 150th career victory to even All-Time recordholder Bart Volkerijk. This means that future Hall of Famer Cordemans can become the winningest pitcher in Dutch baseball history in his next start, which probably will be next Thursday-evening.

Tonight, Cordemans again had a fine outing, as the righthander struckout nine batters, walked only one and gave up only three basehits in 6 2/3 inning against Vaessen Pioniers. Amsterdam collected 16 basehits, including a solo-homerun by Kenny Berkenbosch and a 3-run homerun by Wesley Connor to register a comfortable 10-2 win in Hoofddorp. Before tonight, Pirates and Pioniers led the league in first and second place respectively. But after the loss (which ended a 7-game winning streak), Pioniers was passed in the ranking by DOOR Neptunus.

Amsterdam took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a 2-out, 2-run double by Bas Nooij. The team then rallied for five runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by the homeruns by Berkenbosch and Connor and an RBI-single by Nooij. The final three runs were scored in the ninth. Pioniers scored its two runs in the eighth off reliever Nick Stuifbergen, thanks to a 2-run single by Dè Flanegin. Except for Roelie Henrique, all players in the Amsterdam batting order collected at least one basehit.

Third placed DOOR Neptunus met fourth placed Corendon Kinheim and came from behind to win 3-2 in 10 innings to move into second place. Kinheim outhit Neptunus 7-4 and led 2-0 in the sixth inning. In the fifth, Kinheim scored its first run when Mervin Gario was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, but the team left three runners. In the sixth, Kinheim made it 2-0 on a single by Quintin de Cuba.

Kinheim-starter Nick Veltkamp held Neptunus hitless for five innings, then gave up a lead-off double to Adrian Anthony in the sixth inning. After a groundout and a walk, Veltkamp was relieved by Australian Todd Van Steensel, who made his debut as designated hitter last weekend. He began with a strikeout, but then gave up a 2-run double to Jeffrey Arends that tied the score. The decision then fell in the 10th inning. Pim Walsma, who had taken over the pitching for Kinheim in the ninth, saw the two tie-break runners advance when Rafaël Jozefa reached on a bunt-single, but followed with a strikeout for Raily Legito. Walsma then also struckout Jeffrey Arends, but then he uncorked a wild pitch during next batter's Dwayne Kemp at bat, enabling Adrian Anthony to score the winning run and give Neptunus its ninth consecutive win.

The game between fifth placed UVV and sixth placed AamigoO ADO Lakers ended in an 8-1 win for the first, which therefore moved a little closer towards fourth place. UVV scored twice in the second inning off rookie pitcher Laurens Oele, but also left seven runners in the first five innings. ADO Lakers got one run back in the fourth, but UVV then added six runs in the last three at bats, thanks to a 2-run double by Brian Biezen, 2-run single by Giovanni Samboe, RBI-double by Rodney Michel and RBI-single by Austin Weymouth.

At Rotterdam, eighth placed Sparta-Feyenoord defeated seventh placed Mr. Cocker HCAW 8-6 to win its third game in ten days. It was the team's second win in a row, which was a first for the squad this season. HCAW outhit Sparta-Feyenoord 12-8, but faced a big 5-0 deficit after three innings. Sparta-Feyenoord rallied for four runs in the second at bat, highlighted by a 3-run double by Edison Bito, who then scored himself on a single by Kevin van Nederpelt. Trailing 5-0, HCAW scored three runs in the fourth on a double by Juriën Overman, error and force play-grounder. Sparta-Feyenoord got one run back in the fourth, but HCAW narrowed the deficit to 6-5 in the seventh on singles by Sergino Martis and Dylan de Mello. But again Sparta-Feyenoord was able to take some more distance, scoring twice in the home of the seventh on a 2-run double by Churandy La Cruz. For HCAW, this was its ninth loss in a row.
