Brief second appearance Van den Hurk
Nederlands
CHICAGO, Illinois (USA) - On Sunday, Dutch pitcher Rick van den Hurk made his second appearance for the Pittsburgh Pirates since being recalled to the Major League on September 10. But it was a brief appearance for the righthander, as he faced only three batters in a 13-9 loss vs. the Chicago Cubs in Wrigley Field.

With Pittsburgh leading 9-5, Van den Hurk entered the game in the home of the sixth inning, replacing Chris Resop. Van den Hurk was greeted with a lead-off single by Luis Valbuena, then gave up another single to pinch-hitter Bryan LaHair. After a coaching visit, the two runners advanced on a wild pitch, then Joe Mather walked to load the bases. Hereafter, Van den Hurk was replaced by Jared Hughes, who then gave up an RBI-single to Darwin Barney, which was followed by a grand slam homerun by Anthony Rizzo that gave the Cubs a 10-9 lead.

In the eighth inning, the Cubs added three more runs to win 13-9.
