Sparta-Feyenoord re-takes lead in series
Nederlands
ROTTERDAM (Neth.) - Sparta-Feyenoord rallied for six runs in the second inning and went on to win big, 12-4, vs. The Hawks in Game 3 of the Promotion/Relegation Play-Off to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five. Game 4 will be played next Friday in Capelle a/d IJssel. If needed, Game 5 follows on Saturday in Rotterdam.

This time, it was Sparta-Feyenoord that opened the score. The Rotterdam-squad rallied for six runs in the second inning and led 11-0 after four innings to decide the game early.

In the second inning, former Sparta-Feyenoord-pitcher Ronald de Bont gave up a lead-off triple to Emerson Paula, which was the first of six basehits in this at bat. Reangelo Castillo followed with a single to open the score, then Churandy La Cruz added an RBI-double. After a grounder and a walk for Edison Bito, La Cruz scored the next run on a wild pitch. Michael Riekerk then also walked, a double steal followed and after a strikeout, Anthony Vrolijk singled to bring in the two runners. Singles by Jarred Duin and Emerson Paula (in his second at bat in the inning) then led to the next run and a pitching change, before a grounder ended the inning. But Sparta-Feyenoord had taken a 6-0 lead.

Another run was added in the third inning when La Cruz led off with a triple and scored on a single by Brian Raap. Four more runs then followed in the fourth at bat. Jurgen Klaverdijk, who had come on to pitch in the second inning, walked Vrolijk and Duin, then was relieved by Jesper Krutzen. He was greeted with a 2-run double by Paula that brought in the two runners. Singles by Raap and Riekerk then led to two more runs and an 11-0 lead.

The Hawks then scored a run in the fifth, sixth and seventh inning. In the fifth, Shurendell Borgschot singled in a run, then an error led to a run in the next at bat. In the seventh, Quinn Tramm took over the pitching for starter Jurandy Girigori after the latter walked the first two batters. An error led to the third run for The Hawks, which now trailed 11-3.

Sparta-Feyenoord added a run in the home of the seventh inning on a single by Suri Betrian, then The Hawks managed to score one more run in the ninth when Borgschot homered. But this time, Sparta-Feyenoord registered a convincing win and now needs one win to remain in the Dutch big league, while The Hawks has to win the next two games to promote.
