Anasagasti, Hernandez return as coach Sparta-Feyenoord
Nederlands
ROTTERDAM (Neth.) - When Sparta-Feyenoord opens its next 3-game series on Thursday against AamigoO ADO Lakers, the team will be led again by Head Coach Dino Anasagasti and his assistant Gershwin Hernandez. On Monday, Anasagasti confirmed his return to the team.

Sometimes, things can change quickly and a lot of things happened in one week at Sparta-Feyenoord. Two weeks ago, there were rumors that the team even might withdraw from the league, but that decision wasn't made luckily, as it would be very unfortunate as a club with a rich big league-history would have to withdraw. But a few days later, Dino Anasagasti announced he would step down, together with his assistant Gershwin Hernandez after completion of the upcoming series vs. UVV. And so, on Sunday, May 20, the duo were in charge for the last time. At the same time, it was reported that some players might leave the team and two players indeed handed in their uniform. These two, Brian Raap and Siegert Flaneur left the club, with the latter transfering to Almere Magpies.

Two days later, on Tuesday, May 22, Sparta-Feyenoord had a make-up game scheduled vs. Mr. Cocker HCAW. After the stepping down of Anasagasti, finding a new coach had no first priority, as that was trying to get enough players to play on Tuesday. Three players were added from the club's Rookie Team, while Gershwin Hernandez helped out to fill in as coach for one game. Marwin Kleinmoedig, the Head Coach of the Rookie-squad, was to observe the team in Bussum, but instead played himself and played in his first big league-game since 2006.

On Wednesday, May 23, Kleinmoedig took over as interim-Head Coach for the 3-game series vs. DOOR Neptunus. Talks with players were staged, as was a team-meeting, but the team still was in jeopardy. But then, things started to change in favor of Sparta-Feyenoord. When the team took the field on Thursday, March 24, there not only were enough players, there also were players, who returned in the squad, including some who were reported to plan to withdraw.

In the meantime, a group of loyal supporters, which was approached earlier by Anasagasti, stepped in to help out in organizational affairs. This resulted in these affairs, which were the main reason for the recent problems, being solved. And now that the organizational affairs are in good order, it made the way clear for Anasagasti and Hernandez to return and pick up their coaching duties again.

,,I've always stated that our decision had nothing to do with the team or the players'', Anasagasti said, confirming his return. ,,They work very hard. It all had to do with affairs surrounding the team. A week ago, I had reached my limit. But now things luckily are solved and so, Gershwin and I are returning as coach and will lead the team in the second half of the season.''
