HAARLEM (Neth.) -
The season-opener of Dutch champion Corendon Kinheim against Vaessen Pioniers on Thursday-evening in the Pim Mulier Stadium was halted shortly after it began at 7:30 PM, due to fog coming from the North Sea.
The game was postponed 35 minutes later and was re-scheduled for Friday-evening.
With this, a new rule became into effect right away on Opening Day.
Before the start of the season, it was ruled that games that were cancelled or halted on Thursday-evening, automatically moves to the next evening.
In the past, the game was moved to the following Tuesday.
While there was some incoming fog, the game initially started as scheduled.
Kinheim-starter David Bergman gave up a lead-off double to Zerzinho Croes, which was the first basehit of the 2013 at that moment.
However, the ball was lost in the fog, prompting the umpires to halt the game.
But after a delay of more than a half hour, the fog still hadn't clear the stadium.
The umpire-crew therefore decided to stop the game definitively and postpone it to Friday-evening.
As of now, the scheduled Opening Day-starters David Bergman (Kinheim) and Mika de Lincel (Pioniers) will return to the mound again on Friday-evening.
The game starts at 7:30 PM.
