Dutch Team wins first exhibition game

PHOENIX, Arizona (USA) -
On Tuesday, the Dutch National Baseball Team played its first of six exhibition games in Arizona to prepare for the First Round of the World Baseball Classic in Taiwan.
At the Spring Training-site of the San Francisco Giants, the Dutch Team won 6-1 against the Geckos, the baseball-team of GateWay Communit College.
Lefthander Diegomar Markwell was the starting pitcher in today's game, throwing the first three innings.
Markwell was followed on the mound by Orlando Yntema (2 innings), Mark Pawelek (1), Jonatan Isenia (1), Wendell Floranus (1) and Leon Boyd (1).
Danny Rombley hit a 2-run homerun for the Dutch squad in the second inning following a 2-out single by Dashenko Ricardo.
The Dutch Team collected only six basehits, but ten batters walked, while two were hit by a pitch.
Two of the hits were registered by Rombley, who also singled in the fourth inning and was 2-for-4.
The other basehits were hit by Yurendell de Caster (1-for-2, 3 walks), Kalian Sams (1-for-2, hit by pitch), Michael Duursma (1-for-3, walk) and Dashenko Ricardo (1-for-2).
Also playing in today's game were Dwayne Kemp (0-for-3), Danny Arribas (0-for-2), Hainley Statia (0-for-2, 3 walks), Phildrick Llewellyn (0-for-2), Curt Smith (0-for-4, walk), Nick Urbanus (0-for-2, walk, hit hy pitch) and Bas Nooij (0-for-1, walk).
