Bears even Korean Play-Offs
Nederlands
SEOUL (South Korea) - Doosan Bears won Game 4 of the First Round of the Play-Offs in the Korean Baseball Organization vs. Nexen Heroes, 2-1, on Sunday-afternoon (October 12) to even the best-of-five at 2-2. After losing the first two away-games, the Bears now have won their two home-games at Jamsil Stadium. Game 5 will be played on Monday at Mokdong Stadium, the home of the Heroes, also in Seoul. Doosan Bears is the lone team in history to come back from a 2-0 deficit and win 3-2 to advance to the Second Round since the First Round was expanded from a best-of-three to a 5-game series. The Bears did it in 2010.

Nexen Heroes opened the score in the first inning when starting pitcher Jae-woo Lee gave up three consecutive basehits. The one hit by Taek-geun Lee gave the Heroes an 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the first inning, the Bears had a chance to come alongside or even take the lead. Nexen-starter Sung-hyun Moon walked three batters with two outs, then Won-seok Lee hit a line drive towards short. But there, the ball hit the leg of runner Jae-il Oh, meaning the runner was called out and the inning ended.

Both teams left some runners in the next innings, but then the Bears struck in the bottom of the sixth inning. For the Heroes, Andy Van Hekken, the starter of Game 2, had taken over the pitching. With a runner on base, Jae-hoon Choi then drilled the ball over the fence for a 2-run homerun that gave the Bears a 2-1 lead. Choi is the back-up catcher, who hit only two homeruns in 60 regular season-games, but has caught three of the four games in the Play-Offs and caught five runners stealing.

Dustin Nippert, who started Game 1 for the Bears, pitched the final two innings and earned a save.
