Nederlands
SEOUL (South Korea) - Doosan Bears has done it again! In 2010, the Bears became the first and only team to turn a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 win in the best-of-five First Stage of the Play-Offs of the Korea Baseball Organization. Today, the team accomplished the feat again. After losing its first two games against Nexen Heroes, the Bears won the next two games at home to even the series. Today (Monday, October 14), back at the home field of the Heroes, the Bears won 8-5 in 13 innings to win the First Round 3-2 and advance to the Second Round.

In the Second Round, the Bears meet LG Twins, which finished in second place in the regular season. All games will be played in Jamsil Stadium, at that's the home field of both teams. The best-of-five opens next Wednesday. The winner of the Second Round advances to the Korean Series, which opens on October 24. In the final, the winner meets Samsung Lions, the team of Dutch pitcher Rick van den Hurk. The Lions ended then regular season in first place and therefore automatically qualified for the Korean Series. In the almost three weeks between their last regular season-game and the opening of the Korean Series, the Lions are preparing for the final by holding daily practice sessions and play intersquad games.

At Mokdong Stadium, the Bears took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning when Won-suk Lee hit a 3-run homerun. The 3-run lead supported starting pitcher Hui-kwan Yu, who dominated. In seven innings, the lefthander retired eleven batters in a row, struckout nine and took a No-Hitter into the eighth inning. The No-Hitter then ended when Min-seong Kim led off the eighth inning for the Heroes with a single. Hereafter, Yu was relieved by Jin-soo Byun, who completed the eighth inning.

In the ninth inning, American pitcher Dustin Nippert took over to close the game. For Nippert, as starter, this was his second relief-appearance in the series. But with one away from the victory, Nippert gave up a 3-run homerun to Byung-ho Park that tied the score and forced extra innings. It marked the third time that a game went into extra innings during this series.

The Heroes then stranded runners in scoring position in the tenth and eleventh inning. But then the Bears struck in the top of the 13th inning, scoring five runs. New pitcher Yoon-gu Kang gave up a lead-off homerun to Jun-seok Choi, then walked the next batter and was replaced by Jung-hoon Lee. He gave up a runscoring double to Byeong-heon Min, then moments later, a 2-out, 3-run homerun to Jae-won Oh that lifted the lead to 8-3.

In the bottom of the 13th inning, the Heroes got its first two batters on base when reliever Jae-hoon Jung walks both, but then a double play was made on a line drive. Taek-geun Lee then hits a 2-run homerun to make it an 8-5 score, but a flyout follows to end the game.
