  Kalian Sams makes debut in Mexican pro-league

Dutch outfielder Kalian Sams has made his debut in the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico, the professional Winter League in Mexico.
Sams arrived earlier this week in Guasave and made his debut on Tuesday-evening (October 15) for Algodoneros de Guasave.
He also played for Guasave on Wednesday-evening.

The new season in the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico began on Friday, October 11, but Algodoneros de Guasave had no game scheduled on that day.
The team opened the next day with a 3-2 loss vs. Caneros de Los Mochis.
On Sunday, Guasave defeated Los Mochis, 8-6.
The team then had the day off on Monday and welcomed Sams into the team, who arrived in time to play in the upcoming series against Venados de Mazatlan on Tuesday and Wednesday.
In his first game in Mexico, Sams was the designated hitter for Guasave and went 1-for-4 with a double.
In his first at bat in the first inning, Sams grounded into a force out with runners on first and second base to end the inning.
In the fourth inning, Sams hit a 2-out double, then scored when Jesus Cota followed with a single.
In the sixth, Sams struckout and in the eighth, he grounded out.
Guasave won the game, 8-6.
On Wednesday, Guasave shutout Mazatlan, 12-0 on 13 basehits.
Kalian Sams again was the DH, but had no luck offensively, as he went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts.
In the first inning, Guasave had opened the score with one run and had a runner on second base with one out.
Mazatlan-starter Miguel Ruiz then struckout American Mark Hamilton and Kalian Sams.
Hamilton played in Triple-A this season for the Boston Red Sox and briefly played in the Major League for St. Louis Cardinals in 2010 and 2011.
In the third inning, Guasave scored twice on a homerun by Zelous Wheeler (Triple-A, Baltimore Orioles), then got runners on first and second base with one out.
Kalian Sams then flied out, but hereafter, Guasave added two more runs to lift the lead to 5-0.
In the fifth, Sams led off with a flyout, he then struckout in the sixth and in the eighth, he grounded into a double play.
Earlier this year, Sams participated with the Netherlands Baseball Team in the World Baseball Classic, reaching the semi-final.
This season, Sams started in the organization of the San Diego Padres, playing on the Double-A and Triple-A level.
After being released, he briefly played in an Independent League, then was signed by Texas Rangers.
In that organization, he finished the season, playing in 20 games for its Triple-A team.
After completion of his seventh professional season, Sams returned to the Netherlands and last month joined DOOR Neptunus in the Dutch big league for the postseason.
Sams participated in the Play-Offs, then celebrated the Dutch Championship-title with Neptunus.
And now, he starts a new chapter in Mexico.
