Victory for Bears, one win away from Korean Series
Nederlands
SEOUL (South Korea) - After being shutout on Thursday, Doosan Bears won Game 3 of the best-of-five Second Round Play-Off on Saturday-afternoon (October 19). The Bears won 5-4 vs. LG Twins to take 2-1 lead and is now one win away from reaching the Korean Series. Game 4 will be played on Sunday.

The Twins opened the score with a run in the first inning off of starter Dustin Nippert. With runners on second and third base, Seong-hoon Jeong grounded the ball towards first base. Yong-eui Kim, the runner from third base, took off, but stopped halfway. First baseman Jun-seok Choi initially appeared to throw the ball to home, but then decided to tag Jeong when Kim stopped. And while he did so, Kim raced home to score.

The defense also played a major role in the third inning when the Bears scored three runs. The Bears got the bases loaded with no outs after an error, walked and single, then Hyun-soo Kim's grounder to first resulted in a force out at home. Catcher Yo-sup Yoon then threw the ball back to first for a double play, but the ball ended up in rightfield. While the first baseman tried to catch the ball, he was standing with his left foot over the base, resulting in the batter colliding with him. On the throwing error, Byeong-heon Min, who was the runner on second base, scored the tying run. On the same play, Jae-cheol Leem, who was the runner on first base, advanced to third on the error, but collided wit third baseman Yong-eui Kim when he rounded the base. Leem was awarded home on obstruction to give the Bears a 2-1 lead. A following double by Won-seok Lee then made it 3-1.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Bears made it 4-1 on an RBI-triple by Su-bin Jeong.

In the fifth inning, the Twins got a run back thanks to a runscoring single by Seong-hoon Jeong. They then made it a 4-3 score in the sixth inning when Ji-hwan Oh was hit by a pitch, stole second base, advanced on a grounder and scored on a wild pitch.

The Bears then scored an insurance run in the sixth at bat when Ju-hwan Choi delivered an RBI-single to make it 5-3.

In the top of the ninth inning, the Twins brought the suspense back when Yong-eui Kim tripled with one out and scored on a single by Jin-young Lee to make it a 5-4 score.

Two great plays then ended the game. Lee was replaced by pinch-runner Dae-hyung Lee, who advanced on a wild pitch, but then was thrown out at the plate by leftfielder Jae-cheol Leem trying to score on a single by Seong-hoon Jeong. The latter advanced on the throw, then was also replaced by a pinch-runner, Sun-jae Moon. A new pitcher was brought in and Byung-kyu Lee then singled to rightfield. This time, it was rightfielder Byeong-heon Min who made a great throw to the catcher to eliminate the pinch-runner in a game-ending, collission, play at the plate. Earlier, centerfielder Su-bin Jeong also had made a great play with a sliding catch in the seventh inning.
