Two more cancellations, but 'play ball' in The Hague
Nederlands
ROTTERDAM / VLEUTEN / THE HAGUE (Neth.) - On Tuesday-afternoon, the continuing rain resulted in two more cancellation, but in the evening, one make-up game could be played.

In Rotterdam, a game between DOOR Neptunus and Corendon Kinheim rained out for the fifth time since last Thursday. Due to the postponements, the pitching assignments also were moved ahead and so, tonight Orlando Yntema (Neptunus) and Leon Boyd (Kinheim) were pencilled in for the fourth time to start a game since last Saturday, but again, they didn't saw action. A new date has for this game has not yet been announced. Next Thursday, both teams start a new 3-game series, then on Tuesday, May 28, they have to make up the game that rained out on Saturday and Monday. In the first week of June, there is no room, as Kinheim then participates in the European Cup Qualification Tournament June 4-9 in Barcelona (Spain). This makes Tuesday, June 11, the first possible day to make up this game.

In Vleuten, the game between UVV and Mampaey The Hawks also was cancelled in the afternoon due to the rain. This game will be made up on Tuesday, May 28.

The game between ADO Lakers and Vaessen Pioniers was the lone game which could be played, despite the rain throughout the day.

ADO Lakers vs. Vaessen Pioniers
At The Hague, Vaessen Pioniers trailed 4-3 after five innings vs. ADO Lakers, then scored three runs en route to a 6-5 victory. Because of the 10:30 PM curfew-rule, the game ended after seven complete innings, as time ran out to play the remaining two innings. ADO Lakers now had lost 16 games in a row.

Both teams scored a run in the first inning. For Pioniers, Danny Rombley singled with two outs, advanced on a double by Vince Rooi and scored on a single by Mark Duursma, but two runners stranded. ADO Lakers immediately got alongside in its first at bat when Nurison Leonora led off with a double and scored when an error was made on a sacrifice bunt by next hitter Odion Gouverneur.

In the second inning, Pioniers regained the lead. First, Kevin Dirksen led off with a walk. He then moved on a bunt-single by Chris Williams, which was followed by a throwing error. That brought Dirksen to third base and he then scored when pitcher Rick van der Post uncorked a wild pitch. With one out, Jefferson Muzo walked for Pioniers, but then a double play ended the at bat.

ADO Lakers left two runners in the home of the second inning, as did Pioniers in the top of the third. Moments later, ADO Lakers tied the score again. Rodney Michel reached on an error and Edison Bito singled, but then the first was forced out on a grounder by Dayron Puriel. However, in an attempt to also eliminate Bito at second base, a throwing error was made, enabling the runner to score the tying run.

Pioniers again left two runners in the top of the fourth inning, then ADO Lakers scored twice in the home half. Martijn Riphagen led off with a walk and advanced on a grounder by Julian Goins. Hereafter, Shane Gnade took over the pitching for starter Dennis Buring, but things went wrong for Pioniers moments later. Gnade loaded the bases by hitting Leonora and walking Gouverneur. A double play-grounder by Rodney Michel then ended in a force out at second base, but an error at first base, enabling Leonora to score the go-ahead run. A following single by Bito then made it 4-2 in ADO's favor.

In the top of the fifth inning, Pioniers got a run back. With one out, Mark Duursma (fielder's choice) was on base and he then advanced on a single by Mark-Jan Moorman plus an outfield-error. Kevin Dirksen followed with an RBI-single, but Moorman was eliminated trying to advance to third base. Chris Williams then also singled and a wild pitch put runners on second and third base, but Pioniers again left two runners behind, as a strikeout ended the inning.

Trailing 4-3, Pioniers turned the game around again in its favor in the sixth inning. The Hoofddorp-team then scored three runs off of new pitcher Sylvester Martina, who took over for starter Rick van der Post. Martina started with a strikeout, but then gave up a single to Phil Ortez, followed by a double by Danny Rombley. Next batter Vince Rooi was then walked intentionally to create a force play, but Mark Duursma followed with a single that produced two runs and gave Pioniers a 5-4 lead. Moments later, Duursma scored the next run on a single by Mark-Jan Moorman, before a strikeout ended the at bat.

ADO Lakers narrowed the deficit to one run in its sixth at bat off of Swen Huijer, who was brought in the inning before. Nurison Leonora led off with a single, then advanced to third base on a single by Odion Gouverneur. Huijer then struckout the next batter, but Gouverneur then stole second base, while Leonora took off to score. A walk followed for Edison Bito, which brought in new pitcher Bayron Cornelissen. He then picked off Gouverneur and struckout the first batter he faced to end the inning.

Pioniers left two more runners in the top of the seventh inning, then Cornelissen retired the side in the bottom half, including two strikeouts. Hereafter, the game was halted due to the 10:30 PM curfew-rule, leaving ADO Lakers empty-handed again.
