Opening-game Hudson John Tournament postponed
THE HAGUE (Neth.) -
The organisation of the annual Hudson John Tournament on Thursday announced that the scheduled first game of the event has been postponed.
On Friday-evening, March 29, host ADO Lakers was scheduled to open the event against DOOR Neptunus at 7:30 PM.
However, due to the continuing cold temperatures and freezing wind, it was decided not to play in the evening.
The game will no be played either on Sunday-afternoon or Monday, which was the back-up day for the event.
This year marks the first time that the event is to hosted by ADO Lakers, which is based in The Hague.
The previous fourteen editions were organized by Sparta-Feyenoord in Rotterdam, but that club was dissolved in October last year, due to financial problems.
Hudson John played the majority of his career for Sparta and the tournament was named after him when it was first organized in 1999.
Luckily, the dissolving of Sparta-Feyenoord didn't meant the end of the tournament.
It was picked up by ADO Lakers, where John has played and coached.
The legendary slugger will be the guest of honor again during the upcoming tournament.
The tournament is now scheduled to open at 10:30 AM on Saturday, March 30 with the match-up between UVV and Mampaey The Hawks.
This game will be followed at 1 PM with the meeting between DOOR Neptunus and UVV.
At 3:30 PM, Mampaey The Hawks will play against ADO Lakers.
On Sunday, the event continues at 11 AM with the match-up between Neptunus and The Hawks.
In the afternoon, starting at 2 PM, ADO Lakers will play against UVV.
The postponed game between ADO Lakers and Neptunus now might be played following the 2 PM game on Sunday or might be re-scheduled for Monday-afternoon.
It is the first time since 2005 that the event is not organized in the same weekend as the annual In Memoriam Charles Urbanus Sr. Tournament in Bussum.
From 2006 through last year, both events were held in the final weekend of the exhibition season before the start of the regular season a week later.
The Hudson John Tournament now is held two weeks before Opening Day, with the Urbanus Tournaments to be played next week.
