Tampa Bay moves to Wild Card Play-Off
Nederlands
ARLINGTON, Texas (USA) - Tampa Bay Rays will face Cleveland Indians in the one-game American League Wild Card Play-Off on Wednesday in Cleveland. On Monday-evening, the Rays won 5-2 at Texas Rangers in the 163rd game of the season, or tiebreaker, to claim the second Wild Card.

Two weeks ago, the Rays appeared to be in comfortable position for the first Wild Card, but five more teams were then still in contention. In the last few days, the Indians moved by the Rays, while the Rangers came alongside on the final day of the regular season to force a tiebreaker.

The Rays immediately struck in the first inning when Wil Myers walked with one out and scored on a sacrifice fly by Delmon Young.

Two runs were added in the third at bat. Desmond Jennings led off with a walk, then Evan Longoria homered with two outs.

Texas got a run back in the home of the third when Craig Gentry led off with a single and scored on an one-out single by Ian Kinsler.

After two scoreless innings, both teams scored in the sixth inning. With one out and after a pitching change, Longoria doubled for the Rays. He advanced on a grounder, then made it 4-1 when pinch-hitter David DeJesus doubled.

In the home of the sixth, Elvis Andrus singled with one out, then stole second base and scored on a double by Alex Rios.

Tampa Bay added an insurance run in the top of the ninth. Sam Fuld led off with a single and moved on a grounder. He then stole third base and could score when pitcher Tanner Scheppers (who started the inning in relief) made a throwing error.
