DOOR Neptunus wins Hudson John Tournament
Nederlands
THE HAGUE (Neth.) - DOOR Neptunus has won the 15th edition of the annual Hudson John Tournament, which was held for the first time in The Hague, organized by ADO Lakers. It was the ninth time that the team from Rotterdam won the event. The last time was in 2011. Last year, the tournament was won by Sparta-Feyenoord, which organized the event in the previous fourteen years, but the club was dissolved in October last year.

On Sunday, Neptunus played an 1-1 tie against Mampaey The Hawks in a game that was halted in the third inning, because of snow!
In the afternoon, the tournament resumed. Neptunus then played against ADO Lakers in the game, that was originally scheduled for last Friday, but then was postponed due to the cold temperatures. The game ended in another tie, this time 5-5. Hereafter, UVV, which had lost its previous two games, won 3-1 against ADO Lakers.

Next week, Neptunus meets UVV in their two final exhibition games before the start of the season. The Hawks and ADO Lakers will play another tournament. ADO Lakers then organizes the 3-day In Memoriam Leen Volkerijk Tournament.

Game Four: DOOR Neptunus vs. Mampaey The Hawks, 1-1
This game was halted halfway the third inning, because of snow. It was decided not to resume the game after a delay, as players would have been cooled down too much to warm up again. And so, the 1-1 score became also the final score.

No details of this game are available yet, but will be added later.

Game Five: ADO Lakers vs. DOOR Neptunus, 5-5
In the second game today, both ADO Lakers and DOOR Neptunus got runners in scoring position in the first at bat. For ADO Lakers, Ludwin Obispo doubled with two outs, but stranded. In the home of the first, Neptunus got two runners on base with one out when Gianison Boekhoudt and Dwayne Kemp walked, but then Rafaël Jozefa grounded into a double play.

ADO Lakers then appeared to take a decisive lead when it rallied for five runs in the second inning off of starter Tim Roodenburg. It all began when a throwing error was made on a lead-off grounder by Gino Hersilia. Tim Schaareman followed with a double to put runners on second and third base. The first run was then scored when Chully Rafaela grounded out, then the next run was added when another error was made, this time on a grounder by Odion Gouverneur. This would have been the third out, meaning all runs scored by ADO Lakers were unearned. Gouverneur was then forced out on a grounder by Quensley Bazoer, who advanced on a single by Nurison Leonora. Wamaer Bordewijk followed with another single that brought in Bazoer and a wild pitch accounted for the fourth run. With Bordewijk on third base, Ludwin Obispo walked, then the next run was scored when the Neptunian defense committed another error, this time on a grounder by DJ Cleofa. The inning ended when Obispo tried to score on a single by Gino Hersilia, but was thrown out at the plate.

Roodenburg retired the side in the third, then rookie Sanchez Diornick pitched a hitless fourth inning for Neptunus.

In the home of the second inning, with two outs, Neptunus got three runs back off of Ricky Voorn. With one out, Benjamin Dille singled and advanced on a wild pitch. With two outs, Stephen Henson walked, then Shaldimar Daantji followed with a double to bring in both runners. Moments later, Daantji also moved on a wild pitch and scored when an error was made on a grounder by Gyenuar Lopez, who himself stranded on second base.

Neptunus added a run in the fourth off of new pitcher Laurens Oele. Lead-off hitter Dwayne Kemp reached on an error, then stole second and third base and scored on an one-out sac-fly by Kevin Loos.

In the home of the fourth inning Neptunus came alongside, but failed to win the game. With one out, Gyenuar Lopez walked and Gianison Boekhoudt singled. A following single by Dwayne Kemp tied the score and brought Mourik Huijser, who pinch-ran for Boekhoudt, to third base. A force play-grounder by Rafaël Jozefa eliminated Kemp, then the bases got loaded when Rudy Van Heydoorn walked. But Neptunus left the bases loaded, as Kevin Loos grounded out to end the game.

The tournament ended with UVV winning 3-1 against ADO Lakers, which was the first win for the team during the event.

UVV got off to a good start, scoring twice in the first inning off off starter Wimsley van Heijningen. Norbert Jongerius led off with a single and stole second base, then next batter Brennan Nijhof reached on an error. A single by Ferd van Stekelenburg then produced the first run, while the runners advanced on a the throw from the outfield to get to second and third base. A wild pitch enabled Nijhof to score the second run. Next, Dennis De Quint walked and stole second base. With one out, Van Stekelenburg was thrown out at home on a grounder to short by Ricky Daal, then the bases got loaded when Daan Cornelissen walked. But UVV left the bases loaded, as a force play-grounder followed.

ADO Lakers got one run back in the home of the first inning off of Ian Delemarre. With one out, the former pitcher of L&D Amsterdam Pirates gave up a single to Wamaer Bordewijk, then a double to Ludwin Obispo. A passed ball then accounted for the run.

In the second inning, both teams saw a runner being eliminated at the plate. Joris van Ballegooy led off for UVV with a single, stole second base and advanced on a wild pitch, but then tried to score on an one-out comebacker to pitcher Wimsley van Heijningen and was eliminated. In the home of the second inning, ADO Lakers faced Oscar Meuris, who last season pitched for the Amsterdam Pirates Rookies. With two outs, he walked Jurriaan Dijk, who was then eliminated at the plate trying to score on a single by Nurison Leonora.

UVV added a run in the third inning when Dennis De Quint led off with a double, moved on a grounder by Ricky Daal and scored on a single by Daan Cornelissen. In the fourth inning, UVV was retired in order by new pitcher Rick van der Post.

ADO Lakers reached base again with two outs in the third inning off of Jeroen de Haas. Ludwin Obispo then singled and DJ Cleofa reached on an error, but both stranded. Duko Jansen then retired the side (two strikeouts) in the fourth inning.

With a win, ADO Lakers would have won the tournament, but now they ended up in second place behind Neptunus. They finished in a tie with Mampaey the Hawks, but had won the head-to-head game on Saturday to give them second place. UVV finished in fourth place.

,,It was cold, but was a good game to end the tournament'', UVV's rookie Head Coach Ferenc Jongejan reacted afterwards.

Three individual awards were also handed out. Diegomar Markwell (Neptunus) was named Best Pitcher, while Ludwin Obispo (ADO Lakers) was the Best Hitter with an .800 (4-for-5) average and a 1.000 (8-for-8) on-base percentage. Neptunus-rookie Gianison Boekhoudt was named Most Valuable Player. He batted .600, scored twice and played a good tournament defensively.
