BUSSUM / VLEUTEN / THE HAGUE / DORDRECHT (Neth.) - As predicted, it was a rainy day today (Thursday, May 8) and so, the weather conditions influenced the four scheduled games in the Dutch big league, which were all cancelled.

In the late afternoon, the two games that were to played in the center of the country were cancelled due to steady rain and the condition of the playing sites. At Vleuten, UVV was scheduled to open its series against Vaessen Pioniers, while Mr. Cocker HCAW was to be the host in Bussum vs. Corendon Kinheim.

Some 45 minutes later, the third cancellation was announced, as the opener between Mampaey The Hawks and DOOR Neptunus also rained out.

About 40 minutes before the scheduled starting time, the game between ADO Lakers and L&D Amsterdam Pirates became the fourth and final game to be cancelled.

It marks the first time this season that all four scheduled games had to be cancelled due to rain.

All four games are re-scheduled for Friday, May 9, starting at 7:30 PM.
However, the weather forecasts for tomorrow are also unfavorable. It is predicted that more rain will come in the afternoon with a chance of thunder, hail and heavy winds.
For Saturday, the weather is unstable. A dry period is predicted in the morning, but it will then start raining again in the afternoon. More rain is expected for Sunday.

UVV vs. Vaessen Pioniers

At Vleuten, the opener of the 3-game series between UVV and league-leader Vaessen Pioniers was the first to be scrubbed today because of the weather conditions.

Just after 4 PM, the decision was made that it was not possible to play tonight due to the condition of the field as a result of the steady rain.

The game is re-scheduled for tomorrow-evening (Friday, May 9) and then also will start at 7:30 PM. LHP Ricardo Hernandez Sanchez, who was the scheduled starter for Pioniers tonight, also will be the starter on Friday. UVV had not announced a starting pitcher for tonight yet.

For UVV, this is the third time since the start of the season on April 17 that the weather is a factor in their games. On Opening Day, Thursday, April 17, their road game at L&D Amsterdam Pirates rained out and was re-scheduled for the next day. On Thursday, April 24, their home game against Mr. Cocker HCAW was halted in the top of the seventh inning due to lightning and rain, but it was a valid game at that moment.

For Pioniers, tonight marked the first time that it was bothered by the weather conditions this season.

Mr. Cocker HCAW vs. Corendon Kinheim

At Bussum, the game between Mr. Cocker HCAW and Corendon Kinheim was the second that fell victim to the weather conditions.

Around 5 PM, it was decided that the conditions of the playing site in Bussum in combination with the steady rain were unfavorable to play tonight and so the game was cancelled. The game is re-scheduled for tomorrow-evening (Friday, May 9) and then also will start at 7:30 PM.

The two announced starting pitchers for tonight's game will transfer with the game to Friday, meaning RHP Sander Helmendach takes the mound for home playing HCAW, while RHP David Bergman starts for the visiting Kinheim.

This series is an interesting one, as fourth placed Kinheim leads HCAW by only two points (one game).

It is the first time this season that a game of HCAW was cancelled, but it encountered weather problems earlier. On Thursday, April 24, its road game at UVV was halted in the top of the seventh inning because of lightning and rain. However, the game was valid at that moment and resulted in a win for HCAW.

For Kinheim, this is its second cancellation of the season. Earlier, their home game on Sunday, April 27, which was the third game of their series vs. ADO Lakers rained out. That game was made up two days later.

Mampaey The Hawks vs. DOOR Neptunus

At Dordrecht, the opener between Mampaey The Hawks and DOOR Neptunus became the third game to be cancelled today.

Initially, the field in Dordrecht looked fine and around 4:45 PM, the lines were placed on it for the game. However, it kept on raining and that eventually resulted in ponds of water on the field. And so, around 5:45 PM, the weather and field conditions in Dordrecht resulted in the cancellation on tonight's game. The game is re-scheduled for tomorrow-evening (Friday, May 9) and then also will start at 7:30 PM.

The scheduled starting pitchers for tonight also will take the mound on Friday-evening. The starters were RHP Evan Simons (The Hawks) and LHP Diegomar Markwell (Neptunus).

For The Hawks, this is its second cancellations of the season. On Sunday, April 27, its third game vs. L&D Amsterdam Pirates rained out. The game was made up two days later and The Hawks then handed Amsterdam a surprise loss.

Neptunus has been bothered by the weather once this season. On Opening Day, Thursday, April 17, its home game against ADO Lakers was halted after five complete innings due to rain, but was valid at that moment.

ADO Lakers vs. L&D Amsterdam Pirates

In The Hague, the game between ADO Lakers and L&D Amsterdam Pirates became the fourth and final game to be cancelled due to rain.

The decision was made by the umpire crew around 6:50 PM, forty minutes before the scheduled starting game of the opener of the 3-game series between the two teams. The game is re-scheduled for tomorrow-evening (Friday, May 9) and then also will start at 7:30 PM.

The two scheduled starters for tonight's game will move with the game to Friday and so, RHP Jeremy Winkel will start for ADO Lakers and RHP Rob Cordemans starts for Amsterdam Pirates.

This game was put on hold the longest. While it rained throughout the afternoon, the rain might clear in time before the game which then had a chance to be played. However, the rain continued and made the field unplayable after all.

ADO Lakers and Amsterdam Pirates were the only two teams who actually were at the playing site when the game officially was cancelled.

For ADO Lakers, this is its second cancellation of the season. On Sunday, April 27, its third game vs. Corendon Kinheim rained out and was made up two days later. On Thursday, April 17, which was Opening Day, their game at DOOR Neptunus was halted after five complete innings due to rain, but was valid at that moment.

For Amsterdam Pirates, this is its third rainout of the season. On Opening Day, Thursday, April 17, its home game against UVV was cancelled and made up the next evening. On Sunday, April 27, its home game vs. Mampaey The Hawks also didn't start due to rain. This game was then made up two days later.
