Kinheim moves into tie for 2nd place; 3 games rained out
Nederlands
BUSSUM / VLEUTEN / THE HAGUE / DORDRECHT (Neth.) - Today (Friday, May 9) was 'the day after'. The day after all four scheduled games in the Dutch big league rained out for the first time this season. The games were re-scheduled for tonight and so, everyone kept an eye on the weather forecasts and the predictions for tonight.

...The weather situation at 7:00 PM tonight...

And they weren't that favorable, as more rain was expected. Rain indeed came and resulted in three more cancellations.

Around 2 PM, there was a heavy rain shower with thunder/lightning for some 30 minutes in the Rotterdam-area, where one game was scheduled to be played, the opener between Mampaey The Hawks and DOOR Neptunus in Dordrecht. It then cleared up, the sun even shined a few moment, but shortly before the start of the game, it started raining again. The start was postponed, but the game was eventually cancelled due to thunder.

The other three playing sites seemed to have clear skies in the afternoon, except the Utrecht-area, which got a brief rain shower around 4 PM. There, at nearby Vleuten, the opener between UVV and Vaessen Pioniers was scheduled to be played. While it appeared that it would remain dry until at least 8 PM in this area, more rain came around 6:30 PM. And so, this game became the first to be cancelled tonight.

The Hague got a heavy rain-shower around 6 PM, but after it cleared, the teams of ADO Lakers and L&D Amsterdam Pirates took the field to prepare for the opener of their series. More rain came, the start was delayed, but this became the third cancellation tonight.

Mr. Cocker HCAW and Corendon Kinheim were able to start their game in Bussum, beginning 15 minutes later than scheduled. Besides the rain, this game was bothered by more weather circumstances, as there was a sun-delay in the third inning. But the game was the lone one to be completed and Kinheim won 6-0 to move into a tie for second place.

Around 8 PM, it was dry and the sun was shining at the playing sites, but the decisions had been made, as the fields simply had become unplayable due to the rain. The three cancelled games are re-scheduled for next Tuesday-evening, May 13, starting at 7:30 PM.

(May 9)

Mr. Cocker HCAW vs. Corendon Kinheim

At Bussum, this area appeared the lone one this afternoon without a lot of rain. And so, the opener between Mr. Cocker HCAW and Corendon Kinheim was on schedule to start at 7:30 PM.

However, Bussum also got its share of rain early in the evening, resulting in a rain-delay. But on 7:45 PM, the game went underway. Besides a 14-minute sun-delay in the third inning, the game was played under a clouded sky and ended in a 6-0 victory for Kinheim. The Haarlem-team was outhit 7-5 by HCAW, but the home team committed five errors. With the win, fourth placed Kinheim took some more distance from HCAW. Kinheim now shares second place with L&D Amsterdam Pirates and DOOR Neptunus.

Kinheim opened the score in the top of the third inning off of Sander Helmendach. Jefferson Muzo led off with a single and stole second base. With two outs, he scored the first run when Quintin De Cuba also singled. The latter moved to second base on a following throwing error and hereafter, the game was interrupted. The low-standing sun during sun-set resulted in a 14-minute sun-delay, which is a frequent situation at the site in Bussum. After the game resumed, a grounder ended Kinheim's third at bat.

HCAW got a scoring opportunity in its third at bat off of starter David Bergman. Peter van Doesburg led off with a single and advanced on an one-out single by Jasper Keijzer. Then, the bases got loaded when Jorin van Amstel walked. However, the inning ended when Sergino Martis struckout and Van Amstel was picked off first base to complete a double play.

In the fourth inning, Kinheim increased its lead with three runs. Jeffrey Arends led off with a single, but was forced out on a grounder by Dashenko Ricardo. Kinheim then got the bases loaded when Helmendach walked Niels van Weert and Sven van de Sanden. Another walk for Jefferson Muzo followed to bring in a run and then the next run was scored when an error was made on a grounder by Mervin Gario. A force play-grounder by Björn Henrichs then brought in the third run in this at bat and made it a 4-0 score.

HCAW again got another scoring opportunity in the bottom of the fifth inning. Peter van Doesburg led off with a double and moved to third base on a grounder by Linoy Croes. He then was eliminated at the plate trying to score on a grounder towards first base by next batter Jasper Keijzer. A walk for Jorin van Amstel followed, but a force out then ended the inning.

Kinheim added two unearned runs in the seventh at bat off of Bob Klaarenbeek, who had entered the game in the previous inning. Mervin Gario and Björn Henrichs both walked, then scored with two outs when a hit by Jeffrey Arends was missed in the outfield.

In the home of the seventh, HCAW left two runners in scoring position. Max Clarijs led off with a single and Linoy Croes singled with one out. Despite the 6-0 deficit, Jasper Keijzer followed with a sacrifice bunt, but the two runners were then left behind.

In the remaining two innings, HCAW also was unable to score and left a runner on second base in both at bats.

UVV vs. Vaessen Pioniers

At Vleuten, the opener of the 3-game series between UVV and Vaessen Pioniers was the first game to rain out for the second day in a row.

The Utrecht-area got a brief rain shower around 4 PM, but then, according to predictions, it was expected that it would remain dry until at least 8 PM. However, heavy rain struck around 6:30 PM and so, some 15 minutes later, this game became the first to be cancelled tonight.

Mampaey The Hawks vs. DOOR Neptunus

At Dordrecht, there was a heavy rain shower with thunder/lightning around 2 PM for some 30 minutes in the Rotterdam/Dordrecht-area. It then cleared up, the sun even shined a few moments and it appeared that the opener between Mampaey The Hawks and DOOR Neptunus could be played.

However, shortly before the start of the game (7:30 PM), it started raining again. A few minutes later, the rain got heavier and there also was thunder. And so, the start was postponed for 30 minutes, as it was predicted that the rain would clear around 8 PM. But around 7:45 PM, it was announced that the game was cancelled due to continuing thunder in the area.

ADO Lakers vs. L&D Amsterdam Pirates

At The Hague, the area got hit with a heavy rain-shower around 6 PM, but it then cleared and so, the teams of ADO Lakers and L&D Amsterdam Pirates took the field to prepare for the opener of their series.

More rain came about an hour later and initially, the start of the game was postponed to 8 PM or even 8:15 PM. Work was done on the field to make it playable, but around 7:45 PM, the umpire crew decided to cancel the game, as the conditions of the playing field were unfavorable.

It was confirmed that the pitching rotation for Amsterdam Pirates remains unchanged for this series, as of now. ADO Lakers slightly adjusted its rotation. It already had named another starter for tonight, as LHP Glenn Romney was to start instead of RHP Jeremy Winkel. The latter now will start on Sunday, while RHP Ibrahin Redan will remain the starter on Saturday, as earlier announced. Romney's start transfered with tonight's game to Tuesday.
