Amsterdam Pirates decides final ranking
Nederlands
ROTTERDAM / HOOFDDORP / VLEUTEN / THE HAGUE (Neth.) - L&D Amsterdam Pirates accounted for the final decision in the overall ranking of the regular baseball-season. By winning 6-3 in a rain-shortened game today (Sunday, August 10) vs. Vaessen Pioniers, the latter is unable to move past Corendon Kinheim and therefore will finish in fourth place. And so, Kinheim ends the regular season in third place. This means that Pioniers opens the Play-offs next Thursday vs. league-leader DOOR Neptunus, while Kinheim meets Amsterdam.

Today's game between ADO Lakers and Mampaey The Hawks was halted by rain in the top of the fifth inning with ADO Lakers leading 5-4. The game needed only two outs to be official, but it was impossible to resume and so, both teams will have to play the game in its entirety on Monday-evening. Trailing 3-1, ADO Lakers rallied for four runs in the third inning on a basesloaded walk, a wild pitch and a 2-run single by Irving Redan.

The game between DOOR Neptunus and Mr. Cocker HCAW was initially postponed for 30 minutes, but didn't start due to the rain. The game is re-scheduled for Monday-evening.

The game between UVV and Corendon Kinheim also didn't went underway and was re-scheduled for next Tuesday-evening.

In Hoofddorp, L&D Amsterdam Pirates took a 3-0 lead in the third inning off of veteran Elton Koeiman. Lead-off hitter Michael Duursma hit the ball to short and beat the throw to first base thanks to a head-first slide. With two outs, he scored on a single by Bas Nooij. Hereafter, Remco Draijer and Koen Nooij also added RBI-singles (the latter hit the ball of the fence in the leftfield) to make it 3-0.

Pioniers got two runs back in the fourth inning. Rookie starter Kevin Bosch, who made his debut in the Amsterdam-squad and the Dutch big league, walked Dirk van 't Klooster, then gave up a single to Danny Rombley and walked Vince Rooi to load the bases. A run was then scored on a sacrifice fly by Mark-Jan Moorman. Next, Rooi was picked off first base by Bosch, who then gave up an RBI-single to Mark Duursma. When next batter Dè Flanegin also singled, Bosch was relieved by Mike Groen, who also made his debut in both the big league and an Pirate-uniform. But hereafter, the game was interrupted by rain and after a lengthy delay, it resumed and a flyout ended the inning.

Pirates then added an insurance run in the fifth inning off of new pitcher Dennis Buring. Remco Draijer led off with a walk and went on to score on an one-out single by Jesse Aussem to make it 4-2.

In the home of the fifth, Pioniers narrowed the deficit to 4-3 when Mark-Jan Moorman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, but the home team stranded three runners.

In the top of the sixth inning, Pirates scored two more runs. With one out, Kenny Berkenbosch walked and Bas Nooij singled, then both scored on a double by Remco Draijer. Hereafter, Koen Nooij reached on an error and then, the game was interrupted again by rain.

This time, the game didn't resume anymore and so, the 6-3 score became the final score, as all statistics of the non-completed sixth inning will be recorded. A non-completed inning is only erased when the visiting team ties a score or takes the lead without a chance for the home team to undo that in their at bat. But as Amsterdam already was leading, all stats are valid.
