UVV got close to opening the score in both the first and second inning, but then stranded four runners off of starter Rik Geestman.
In the first inning, Tony Enos reached on an error with one out and moved into scoring position when Dennis De Quint singled, but a pop-fly ended the inning.
In the second at bat, Norbert Jongerius was hit by a pitch with one out, but moment later, he was eliminated in a rundown after a pick-off.
Hereafter, Thomas Smits singled and Dennis Ribbens walked, but they also were left behind.
UVV left two more runners in the third at bat, but also scored the first run in this frame.
Tony Enos led off with a walk, then reached second base safely when an error was made on a force play-grounder by Gilmer Lampe.
The bases got loaded when Dennis De Quint walked.
Enos then scored when Mike Bazuin followed with a sacrifice fly.
After Lampe and De Quint executed a double steal, the bases were loaded again when Brennan Nijhof walked.
However, the inning ended when Norbert Jongerius flied into a double play.
After the ball was caught, Lampe took off to score, but was eliminated at the plate.
UVV was held scoreless in the fourth inning, then the squad doubled its lead in the fifth.
Gilmer Lampe led off with a walk, stole second and moved to third on a flyout.
He then scored the second UVV-run on a single by Mike Bazuin.
Hereafter, DSS made another double play, but now trailed 2-0.
UVV failed to take more distance in the seventh and eighth inning and left the bases loaded in both at bats.
In the seventh, off of reliever Mark van Deursen, with one out, Tony Enos walked and Gilmer Lampe reached on an error.
With two outs, Mike Bazuin walked, but the three runners were left behind when a flyout ended the inning.
In the eighth, off of new pitcher Max Ploegstra, pinch-hitter Jamie Verheyleweghen and Dennis Ribbens walked with one out.
The latter was then forced out on a grounder by Joris van Ballegooy, then the bases got loaded when Tony Enos walked, but again the bases were left loaded.
UVV left 14 runners behind in this game, including nine in scoring position.
UVV-starter Jim Ploeger encountered not much problems.
He gave up his first basehit in the fourth inning when Mitchell Koot singled with one out, but UVV then turned a double play.
In the fifth, the lefthander gave up an one-out single to Tommy van de Sanden, but he was forced out.
Ploeger gave up his third basehit in the seventh when Levine Gabriëls connected with two outs, but he also didn't got beyond first base.
In the ninth, Ploeger walked lead-off hitter Koen Halderman.
When the next batter flied out, Ploeger was relieved by Oscar Meuris, who retired the next two batters to end the game.
DSS got into scoring position only once and that was when Mark Smit (who had reached on a fielder's choice) stole second base after a pick-off attempt with two outs in the third inning.
