Amsterdam Pirates wins huge vs. The Hawks
Nederlands
AMSTERDAM (Neth.) - L&D Amsterdam Pirates won huge on Saturday (July 4), defeating Mampaey The Hawks with a 22-1 score.

Amsterdam collected 21 basehits in the game, including three by Remco Draijer, Koen Nooij and Linoy Croes. Eight of the nine starting players had at least one basehit, the lone exception was Patrick Bok. Amsterdam used eleven players in this game and all of them scored at least one run, including three by Michael Duursma, Nick Urbanus and Croes. Nine of them had at least one run batted in, led by Linoy Croes, who had five, and Duursma, who had four.

(July 4)

Tom de Blok started for Amsterdam Pirates instead of Kevin Heijstek, who was initially announced as starter for today's game. However, Heijstek was 'relieved' of his start before the game, as his wife was about to give birth to their child. So, the righthander left and De Blok started instead.

De Blok retired the first seven batters he faced, striking out three of them.

In its first at bat, Amsterdam rallied for nine runs to set the tone in this game. Laurens Oele made his first start of the season for The Hawks. Oele faced all nine batters in the Amsterdam line-up, giving up five hits, walking two batters and being credited with eight earned runs.

Oele hit lead-off hitter Michael Duursma with his second pitch, then gave up a single to Nick Urbanus. The two runners were awarded the next base when Oele was charged with a balk. He then gave up an RBI-single to Kenny Berkenbosch, loaded the bases by walking Remco Draijer, followed by a runscoring single by Jesse Aussems and a 2-run single by Koen Nooij. The bases were re-loaded when Patrick Bok also walked. Next, Aussems was forced out at home on a grounder by Rashid Gerard, followed by a 2-run ground-rule double by Linoy Croes, the ninth batter in this inning. Hereafter, Evan Simons took over for Oele, but was greeted with a 2-run double by Michael Duursma. A sacrifice fly by Nick Urbanus then made it 9-0.

Three more runs were added in the third inning, thanks to another 2-run double by Duursma and a sac-fly by Berkenbosch.

A single by Bas Nooij brought in another run in the fourth that lifted the lead to 13-0.

In the fifth inning, the home team staged an 8-run rally on seven basehits. After getting the bases loaded with no outs, a run was scored on a sac-fly by Jesse Aussems. When Patrick Bok walked, the bases were loaded again, followed by an RBI-single by Bas Nooij, 2-run double by Linoy Croes (also his second in the game) and 2-run single by Jorin van Amstel, which led to another pitching change. José Moreno took over, but he gave up an RBI ground-rule double by Kenny Berkenbosch and runscoring single to Remco Draijer that made it 21-0.

Amsterdam-starter Tom de Blok gave up an one-out single to Wijnand Ruben in the third, but he was forced out. A walk for Odion Gouverneur followed, but The Hawks stranded two runners. After Gouverneur's walk, the righthander retired seven batters in a row. He then gave up run in the top of the sixth inning. Chris Williams led off with a single, who advanced to third base when an error was made on a force play-grounder by Odion Gouverneur. With one out, the bases got loaded when Jules Peters walked. With two outs, Williams scored the lone run for his team on a wild pitch, but three runners were left behind.

In the bottom of the sixth, Amsterdam got the run back again off of new pitcher Brian Raap, who was the designated hitter before this inning. Koen Nooij led off with a single and Patrick Bok walked, then Raap balked with one out and gave up a sacrifice fly to Linoy Croes that made it 22-1.

In the top of the seventh, Daan Hendrix pitched for Amsterdam. He gave up an one-out single to Wijnand Ruben. A groundout and strikeout then ended the game.
