Amsterdam Pirates also wins big vs. PUC
Nederlands
PARIS (France) -
L&D Amsterdam Pirates recorded another convincing victory on the European Cup Tournament in Paris, defeating host PUC Paris with a 15-3 score in 6½ innings.
With the win, Amsterdam moved closer to qualification for the final, but the decisions will fall on Saturday, the last day of the preliminary round.
Amsterdam then meets UnipolSai Bologna (Italy).
When Amsterdam wins, it will reach the final.
In case of a loss, the final score will be decisive, as in this scenario, a 3-way tie will result, as it is expected that T&A San Marino will win vs. PUC.
What's in favor of Pirates is the 6-0 win vs. San Marino.
Dennis Burgersdijk went the distance for Amsterdam Pirates and gave up only five basehits.
The team collected 14 hits itself, including three by Michael Duursma, who also batted in three runs.
For the second consecutive day, regulars Bas Nooij and Nick Urbanus had the day off.
Day 4 began with the match-up between UnipolSai Bologna (Italy) and Solingen Alligators (Germany).
Bologna is one of the favorites to reach the final and was en route to a 7-inning mercy-rule, leading 12-2 after six innings.
In the bottom of the 7th inning, Solingen got the bases loaded, but Bologna was one out away from ending the game.
And then suddenly, the Germans rallied for eight (!) runs to narrow the deficit to only 12-10 and force a continuation of the game.
In the inning, Solingen had eight basehits, including back-to-back 2-run doubles by Tanner Leighton and Dominik Wulf.
After a pitching change, a third double followed, hit by Nils Hartkopf, that made it 12-10, but then a force out ended the productive at bat.
Bologna then added six more runs in the next two at bats to win 18-10.
The Italians collected 20 basehits, including four by Guillermo Rodriguez and Alessandro Vaglio.
With the loss, Solingen was eliminated for the final.
In the afternoon, in Chartres, T&A San Marino shutout Brest Zubrs (Belarus) 15-0 in a 5-inning game.
Alessandro Ercolani struckout six batters and threw a No-Hitter.
After having retired the first 14 batters, he missed a Perfect Game when he walked Dzianis Hauryliuk with two outs in the fifth inning.
Hereafter, a flyout followed.
San Marino collected 11 basehits, including two by Jack Santora and Wuillians Vasquez, who has played for HCAW in the Dutch big league a few years ago.
San Marino rallied for six runs in the second inning and added four in the fourth.
Five more runs were scored in the fifth and the 15-run difference was then reached with one out.

In the top of the second inning, PUC scored twice off of Dennis Burgersdijk.
Jules Habib reached on an error and Eddie Murray singled, then the two moved on a sac-bunt by Christopher Goniot.
With two outs, Douglas Rodriguez doubled in both runners to narrow the deficit to 4-2.

The team then added ten more runs in the next three at bats.
In the fourth, Jorin van Amstel and Roelie Henrique walked, followed by a double steal.
A grounder by Michael Duursma then produced a run, followed by another run which was scored when Kenny Berkenbosch reached on an error.
